What's On YOUR To-Do List?

I'm curious how many of my fellow dilettante's have to-do lists like mine. Littered with fixing things that aren't necessarily broke, but don't qualify as "fixed" or "done". Wandering attention and habitually failing to complete tasks is normal for my ADHD ass, and it's trend I hope to break soon.

I feel your pain. It seems like you finish one project and 6 more pop up. It is a never ending battle. Off the top of my head, I need to seal my deck, paint interior trim, install moulding around new skylights, replace gutter downspout extensions, replace 2 ceiling fans, replace grout in shower, clean out & organize garage and basement, add 20 amp circuit and electrical outlets in basement, pressure wash driveway & walk, and the list goes on. I am not opposed to doing things myself. I have had bad experiences the last couple of years hiring someone to do work on my home. IF they actually show up, the quality of the work they do is sub par at best. Good luck with your projects!

How are you doing Sgt Shimizu! Cpl Pickering here from our former HMLA-369 Marine Corps Squadron! I'm voting for the burst copper water line :)

Thank you for posting your "to do list". I feel so much better now knowing I'm not the only one with so many jobs to do. Like Pinnocios nose though, mine is still growing.

Mr Dilettante! Holy Smokes that is a crazy list. There are some doozies on there for sure. I let my house go for 10 years and have spent the last 5+ years bringing it back. My list was obnoxious like yours so thanks for sharing. Still is. Appears all of us homeowners who DIY are behind in projects. I’m still behind as evidenced by exhibit A: paint outside stairs, paint outside stairs rails, spa leaks, clean junk behind garage, shower head tile needs repair, electrical under kitchen sink jacked, gate needs painted and fixed, windows in office need new hardware, finish office cabinets I started. Need AC in office. And the list goes on.

I’d say you should start with a project that’s either broken / visible or one that needs to be done while weather is reasonable. I’d start with the busted wall in the room. Hard to tell but that one looks doable in a weekend.

Great video!

You're not alone. I have 4 acres to seed, trees to trim, underground wiring about 300 feet to dig-up, build a small playground for our 5 fur-kids, install a 24ft antenna on top of a 5ft tower. Like you said, owning a home is a full-time job. Be careful with your repairs.

Im right here with you. We’ve lived in our home for 8 years and have some things that I have to fix but we’ve gotten by just fine. I made a list a while back and kept adding to it but never actually fixing anything. But this year I started fixing it one at a time and slowly that list is dwindling. So far we’ve fixed electrical, plumbing and sliding doors that never opened unless you mustered enough strength to push a boulder. All that is fixed and man has it changed the way I feel about the house now. I’m enjoying home living much more. Today I’m replacing a toilet and can’t wait to sit on my new throne and watch more of your videos.

Well Tom, As a fellow Chinese diesel heater owner, I have decided to shitcan the whole project. My 1st. Unit crashed with a fuel delivery problem back in December of 2023, Rather than freeze my ass while trying to fix it, I ordered another one FedEx Express overnight. I got it and put fresh, clean diesel in it and ... Another fuel delivery problem. Screw this! I'm back on firewood and propane. Oh, by the way, thanks for the orange peel rub on the Manhattan glass tip, I love it!

I also need to install a storm door that I have had for a year plus! Gutters need cleaned out. I need to replace the trim around the inside of one garage window. I need to replace my door bell. Need to replace the key pad for my garage door opener. My driveway really needs replaced as the concrete is severely cracked. I need to finish the final tuning on my Corvette and probably get it out there for sale since I really never drive it. Need to finish my Gen 1 KLR 650 upgrades by changing the front springs to progressive springs and replacing the weak rear spring along with replacing the skid plate and adding hand guards. I have replaced the tires, added Tusk Excursion soft bag system already along with some other upgrades in preparation for some motocamping adventures this year. I need to replace the power receptacles in our spare bedroom since the cords keep falling out of them. That seems to be my list for this year. I think this is fairly typical for most guys. Good luck with your list and I look forward to your upcoming videos!!

Interesting video, one thing to keep in mind, home ownership eludes so many young people today, we are truly lucky to own homes..

Having a to do list is great to keep me busy, keep up the videos.

Cheers

Paint the shop, Side/trim the chicken coup, trim the sauna, fix the sauna door, oh yeah, completely new septic system, fix the yard after septic is done, prepare the garden, plant and weed the garden, clean the shop, make my 991 work on the digital modes, clean up over grown black berries, build a deck, make a patio. clean the gutters out. oh, and go to work everyday.

Biggest shock to me upon moving back to Canada after 30+ years of living in a re-enforced concrete house in Hong Kong was how much work wood and brick houses are, and the strangeness of HVAC conduit systems here. It's been a steep learning curve, and I'm seriously thinking about building a custom home designed right.

Flood light and camera should be your 1st on the list.

you mentioned insulate your attic? are you going to use Fiberglass or rockwool? I would recommend rockwool it works better and if the attic catches on fire the rockwool won't burn. don't do the foam spray if it catches on fire the fire stays inside the foam and causes a toxic gas. I put Rockwool in my dads old house before I sold it. it added so much more value because it creates a great sound barrier. as for the blinds on a energy wise thing use pull down shades they block out heat and cold much more than blinds. how I start projects around my home I start with the low hanging fruit items. go from easy to tough because you learn small tips and tricks when you get to the bigger things and your list goes down quick. I hope your dogs join you in on the repairs. I know my cat like to supervise with instructions from my wife. haha! have an awesome day!

Looks like my list! 😂

Tom film any of them. Enjoy your channel. I’ll crack a beer and watch whatever project you knock out on your list.

Mr. D, that list is brutal. Farm some of that out i.e. delegate some of the non mission critical stuff if at all possible.
