I was in the same boat as a Kid, I was either the only one with them or the only one with them successfully hatched as they didn't read the instructions and dumped everything in at once, I did the same thing with the book too and fawned over the stuff as most of it just wasn't avalible to me.
With the Light I'd imagine you could probably use rechargeable batteries with a higher mAH ratng to extend it's use although then I'd be concerned about burning it out or heating it up as by their simple nature theres nothing to really prevent it overheating, I'd experiment with my old one but it's still stuck in the loft, maybe an experiment idea for a video perhaps?
