Yep I was in your shoes a couple months ago. I graduated with my Bachelors in IT. And I struggled to get a job. So many interviews and no offers. Then finally I got a call in the morning when I was sleep. A company I interviewed for offered me the position for twice the amount I was asking for. Stay strong and continue to push forward sister. Blessings!

Many people have bachelor degrees and then struggle financially in the real world. That is the harsh reality

time to lie on them applications or applying for jobs you don’t qualify for. No one fits the criteria.

A bachelor's degree is the same thing as a high school diploma now. It doesn't get you a job. It's not the degree that gets you money, it's who you know.

I graduated during the recession after 2008 and the job market was terrible! I moved home with my Parents, I worked contract jobs that weren't paying that much and eventually I was miserable and said there has to be more to life than this. So I moved to Asia to teach English and it was the best thing I could have done. I do hope your internship is fruitful and leads you where you want to be.

The sad truth is, if you are not going to college for a specified education like becoming a doctor, a dentist, or other specified fields, you will struggle trying to get a job. There are simply too many people applying for the same job. It’s like winning the lottery to get a job that has thousands of applicants.

About halfway through college I realized that having internships and real world experience is infinitely more important than almost any other academic/professional development aspect of the “college education.” I graduated as an engineer with three internships under my belt. As a result, I had my pick of jobs when I graduated last year. Currently, I’m in a job that I love in a field that I love with a great salary. Main thing I’ve learned so far after college has been if you plan and are patient and consistent, success in any aspect of life follows (maybe not in the exact timing you’d like, but it‘ll come).

A "degree" is like a "door knocker". It allows one to be better heard when knocking on doors, but it doesn't open them. You must open them yourself and walk through. Now, once "through the door", the work begins. Getting a degree is NOTHING special. "Everyone has a degree", so "what sets you apart" becomes the only pertinent question. I've spent a career as a CPA/Financial Statement Auditor, going from company to company for over 20 years performing audits. There is no "magic bullet", ONLY tons of grueling WORK, and there's still no guarantees. Life has ALWAYS required tremendous struggle, so DON'T GIVE UP.

I love that you are sharing this kind of story because it adds more weight to the argument Black women make consistently about how we have to be so many times better than our counterparts, even when compared to Black men. I am a really talented individual who is studying law at university, and I'm underestimated every day like someone just allowed me to go to the school despite the fact that I'm majorly underqualified when if that was the case, I would have flunked-out a long time ago (like a lot of them).

People don’t realize your 4/5 years in college should mostly be used to figure out how you will survive after college. Not the parties and useless organizations (not all are useless) everyone wastes their time on. That stuff does have its place but it should be minimized since it has little to no ROI while you burn away your time in an environment that shields you from the real world temporarily. Think of all the summer and in between class time students waste socializing when they could’ve been building a resume with actual experience to go along with their degree by networking with professionals in the field and doing projects / internships.

Finding a job is a full-time job in itself, if not including overtime. The amount of time to fill out an application on these crappy company websites hurts my back for sitting long periods of time. I stopped applying my resume, CV and references because they are not even going to consider reading it through the AI system that is in place. Not to mention, If they want me to include my references then that job better pay instead of wasting my peers time to speak with them. The job market in the US just sucks and I hope something can be done about this. I am considering joining the military as an officer since they are in high demand right now.

The problem is people think after college is where learning stops. The reason why stem (and more specifically engineering/computer science/tech) student do so well after college is because before they even entered college they were highly interested in the subject. Most kids in computer science programs have been programming for fun since middle school, so when they entered college it was second nature and then in college (even for majors like computer science of engineering) they don't teach you modern systems/concepts you will use in industry when you graduate, you have to be interested in that stuff and learn all the new modern stuff that's used today and practice outside of college. Learning doesn't stop after college because its 4 years of learning old outdated stuff, you have to be naturally curious. Before an interview study what the job requires, if there is a software you might have to use on the job then watch a bunch of tutorials on youtube prior to the interview, study. The day of being ill prepared for an interview and then position is long over, things are more competitive now because employees know college didn't teach you what you really need to know. It's adulting. Also people need to stop thinking they're super special because we have a bachelors degree, everyone and their Mom has one so move on from that and learn real skills.

The problem with the university system is that it doesn't teach what employers want, which is staff with experience. University wants your money, what happens afterwards doesn't really matter to them. We need to bring back proper apprenticeships where you earn whilst you work. We have the same problem in the UK. Grads are 'educated' but have zero experience in most degrees.

Fake it till you make it! My employer took a chance on me when I was 21. No experience, couldn’t pass a drug test, etc. Now at 28, my fully legitimate resume could get me any job anywhere! Honesty is only key when you know someone personally. Lie to everyone else.

Worked a full-time job, went through a divorce, the pandemic happened, lost that job during it, became a single dad. Got another full time job. While being a full time student through all of it. 😅. I’m set to graduate May 4th with my BS. 🙌🏽 Don’t Quit!
