Juno-106 - Series 4, Part 4 (Part Numbers!)

This video is all about sourcing the parts (with part numbers and vendors) to recondition a Juno-106 to the same standards as mine. I show the voice chip socket/pin parts that I have finally decided on, and then show a good affordable CPU board battery clip (good for other synths too) and finally show the IEC power receptacle I am using to rid my old synths of their lamp cords, pig tails and 2-Prong Roland cables.

Thanks for the Juno videos. My 106 died a couple of months ago and is about to have the acetone treatment. I have fitted the same sockets that you used and have found a suitable keying plug. The Mouser part number is: 649-65307-001LF. Manufacturer part number: 65307-001LF.

I also replaced the C9 AC socket with a standard 3-pin one (aka C13/C14) I salvaged from some electronics - on my private Juno. The earth is not connected though and this is a problem, because a 3-pin plug must have the earth connected. So well, a standard 2-Pin IEC320 C8 might be a better choice, and there are - dodgy - C8 auf C9-adapters. Or get some IEC 320 C9 power cords of Amazon and leave the original C9 in place. Not connecting the earth on a 3-pin inlet is IMHO a no-go.
Or - use a modern C17/C18 one with also the earth missing. It can take standard 3-pin cables (C13), so a missing cable isn't much of a problem - and the inlet clearly shows, that the earth is not connected. IMHO the best choice.

The 12 pin sockets are proving really difficult to find in the U.K. It's looking like I may have to buy from the U.S!

Hey Slug, great information on the keying plug. I ended up using sugru (the self curing rubber) to key all of my sockets, but I will include an order for the real keying plugs next time I buy from Mouser.

I actually found a good replacement and recorded a video on it last month, but since you have asked it's now uploading as part 5 of the series. It should be online in the next hour or so.

Cheers,

Do you know the pitch of the wave gen chips? I have an early Juno 106 and the pitch of the legs is narrower than the vca/filter chips

PS Any update on a suitable battery holder?

I was just curious on how you took off the pin on the connector header to connect to the chip? Thanks
