My Travelling Object

Показать описание
Every object has a story to tell. From the rugs under your feet, the plates you eat from, and the incense burners that fill your rooms with the aromas of other worlds.
What stories can these objects tell us about global connections? We might live in a globalised world today, but for centuries our ancestors decorated their homes with objects from around the globe. And artists too have long been inspired to paint, draw, or mimic these imported objects.
Tell us about the objects in your home. Send us a photo, video or drawing. Let us know where it comes from (guesses are fine!) and the story behind it. Perhaps it was your grandmother's china, a glass lamp you picked up in Venice, or a Persian rug that has been in your family forever.
There is history in every piece of art. Using these images we’ll produce some new films explaining the historical display of these objects with expert Art Historians (so stay tuned!).
This project from the department of Art History at the Open University sheds light on commonly found objects in your home and traces their historic origins. Building on our outreach work with schools, #OpenArtsObjects is giving you the opportunity to tell the stories of the objects in your home.
