I've been waiting for the 12-24 or the 12-28; this is my dream come true.

Ooh yeah I swapped to this lens on my S5IIX recently, and it replaced all my other Panasonic wide lenses for video. I use the 50% crop in 50p mode as you say, to get a longer focal length. Overall very happy with it - bright enough for indoor use (even in my dark office) but flexible enough for all-day use for me.

On FX3/A7S3/ZV-E1, I'd rather go with Tamron 17-50 f/4 or Sony 16-35 f/4. Both are internal zoom and having more reach, which is more important than f/2.8.
On a7IV and a7R5, the cheaper route is to go with Sigma 10-18 f/2.8 and/or Tamron 20-40 f/2.8. When budget is no issue, 16-35 GM2 is the way to go.
On L-mount, this might be the best or only choice.

This lens on the Sony A74 and Panasonic S5 Mark 1 and Mark 2, NIKON Z5, and Canon R5 Mark 2, Canon R6 Mark 2 and Canon R7 in crop mode in 24fps would be great for long form interviews and just filmmaking.
