The submersible Titan was the largest carbon fiber pressure vessel for deep diving. Most other deep submersible pressure hull is made of metal. The carbon fiber reduced the overall weight and increased the internal volume allowing it to carry five people. Carbon fiber failure mode is cracking like an egg shell and splitting of the fibers; metal will deform, bend and crumple. To monitor for carbon fiber failure, the designers installed sound monitors to detect cracking sound and hopefully allowing the pilot of the submersible to surface.

How is it possible that this vessel has no emergency locator beacon?

This is going to be made into a movie.

Sadly the robotic cradles that can bring up the disabled submersible will not arrive on site in time. This is moving from rescue to salavge operation.

The company should have been required to publish and submit a rescue plan to the Coast Guard in the event of a worst-case scenario.

A rescue at that depth will take days to organise

Sad to hear that if they hear banging depending where it is they dont have the resources to rescue them if they are on the bed 😔 plus it takes 2.5hours to get down to the bed. Lets hope they have a huge magnet they can put down there.

How they didn't have some sort of tracking device still baffles me. Didn't it cost the passengers 250k or something?

When the sub is rockin' listen for that knockin'

Currents probably pushed them under debris and they got caught unable to free themselves. If they weren't trapped they could dump ballast and rise. Doesn't look good.

This sub communicated by text msg and completely experimental. Never possessed any type of regulatory certification. RED FLAG!!! But ultimately these guys knew the risk of certain death. Good for them doing what they wanted. GOD SPEED BROS Who's going to pay the bill with all these resources being used?

even they locate the sub theres no way they can rescue them time is running out

Perhaps ghoulish death tourism to a mass grave is not such a great idea after all....
