4 Levels of Tostadas: Amateur to Food Scientist | Epicurious

We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Emily, home cook Daniel, and professional chef Saul Montiel from Cantina Rooftop - to prepare us their take on tostadas. Once each level of chef had presented their creation, we asked expert food scientist Rose to explain the choices they made along the way - both good and bad. Which of their crunchy creations looks most mouthwatering to you?

most pure person ever

Can we just appreciate that Saul took time out of his schedule to do this video either after his restaurant closed in the evening or early in the morning before it opened? I know it probably didn’t take long to do, but it was a kind gesture in this pandemic.

Level 1: Quarantined American trying new things.
Level 2: Enthusiastic home cook trying to level up.
Level 3: Emperor Itzcoatl of the Aztec’s personal chef.

“Don’t do this at home. I’m doing this because I’m an expert.”

As he waves the big chef’s knife around in the air. Well played, sir.

I enjoy Emily so much, she is not pretentious at all and really sharp and honest with what she uses/how she cooks while owning it all the way!

I think Emily is starting to level up. This is no longer "boil a hotdog" Emily or "burn a hamburger" Emily.

I feel like Saul is the kinda guy that if you knew him, and asked him to teach you how to make something, he'd be extremely excited to show you and try your attempt at it.

I like how each level is perfect in its own way
Level 1: it is perfect because it shows what a real home cooked meal should be like
Level 2: is perfect because it shows how a little bit of knowledge can improve your meal by miles
Level 3: because it is supposed to be culinary perfection and it is perfection
