The normalpdf command operates as follows: normalpdf(value, mean, standard deviation). Since the normal density (normald pdf) requires the mean and standard deviation to be known and is symmetric about its mean, the mean would represent the x-coordinate for the maximum y-value. So if you set the value = mean, the normalpdf command will output the maximum y-value for the Normal density. For the calculator, this guarantees the normal density will be displayed on the screen properly.
