In full: Keir Starmer victory speech as Labour wins in landslide

Sir Keir Starmer held a victory rally in central London after Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the general election.

The Labour leader told Labour activists: “We did it. You campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it and now it has arrived: Change begins now.

“And it feels good, I have to be honest.”

Labour has now officially won the election, having secured 330 seats - a majority in the House of Commons - with 475 out of 650 seats now having declared.

Sir Keir said: “Across our country people will be waking up to the news, relieved that a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this great nation.

“And now we can look forward again, walk into the morning, the sunlight of hope, pale at first but getting stronger through the day, shining once again on a country with the opportunity after 14 years to get its future back.”

The Tories did this to themselves, 14 years of constant failures have culminated in the biggest loss in their parties history. Whether Starmer sticks to what he says is yet to be seen but the bottom line is we needed change in this Country, not just change of PM but change of Government as a whole. It seems like the majority of the British public are generally on the same wavelength and want the same things, no shouting back and forth in Parliament with no action, but sensible, constructive conversations about the direction of the Country.

Introduce a sugar/fat tax.
Increase Tax on items damaging to health. I.e. cigarettes, vapes.
Make people averting good health pay extra to help fund the NHS.
