Americans really seem to misunderstand how the constitution works. It's not 'symbolic' or 'ceremonial', Starmer was not Prime Minister until the King made him so. All the election did was ensure that his party has a majority in Parliament and thus can command the confidence of the House. You might as well say the president's swearing-in is just 'symbolic'.

How is Starmer supposed to fix UK's economy?

Not a major victory, because of our FPTP system, he is Prime Minister with only 34.8% majority, we need Proportional representation.

To be clear, Israel is a significant trading partner, and the relatively small element of military exports we send are paid for. How else are we helping them?

We have sent about £12.5 billion to Ukraine, in military equipment and direct economic assistance. We do it in the belief that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was an unprovoked act of aggression, and if the Ukranians are prepared to fight to defend their country then there should be international support for them to do so. If Russia is allowed to suceed, then the risk to other European countries, and of a much wider conflict, increases. The cost of the last major conflict in Europe was incalculably high. That's why we send aid to Ukraine.

There are have been a ton of avoidable mistakes that have brought about the current problems in the British economy. Supporting Ukraine isn't one of them, and not supporting Ukraine could lead somewhere far worse.

A shift to the left. Um corbyn was left. Starmer is a centrist. Yes he’s quite left wing by American standards but is a centrist and neoliberal
