The hardflip is a complex trick that combines a kickflip with a frontside shove-it, making it one of the more challenging tricks to learn. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skateboarder looking to take your flip tricks to the next level, our tutorial is perfect for you. With Domo’s expert guidance, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the hardflip and impressing your friends at the skate park. We’ll start with the basics, such as foot placement and how to pop the tail of the board, before guiding you through the process of sliding your front foot diagonally towards the board’s heelside to execute the flip, and catching the board with your front foot. Finally, we’ll show you how to level out the board with your back foot and land the trick successfully.

Nothing beats the feeling of landing a trick you've been trying to land for a long, long time. Anyone out there trying to learn hardflips, just keep at it. And remember, that back foot is crucial.

Scooping/pushing the tail forward with the backfoot is key. That's why sometimes you see people who aren't great switch skaters can do switch hardflips well. This is because their dominant foot is on the tail when they ride switch and it makes this important scooping/pushing the tail forward action easier. I had a friend who couldn't do hardflips or frontside flips between the legs riding regular stance, but he could do them switch sometimes.

For anyone having problems: try positioning the backfoot like you're doing a tre flip (literally grasping front edge of the board with your toes). When popping, pop as a fs shove it (but like i said, foot in a tre flip/bs shove it position). With a minimum hardflip flick from a front foot, the board should automatically flip into a hardflip. Also legs close together, and the flick from the front foot isn't like a kickflip, but more subtle - you wanna get that front foot out the way asap.

This is a good tutorial. This is one trick I can’t do after 40 years skating.

Dominic walker @domowaka is easily the most underrated pro right now. Been seeing him skate since the beginning at volcom park in Costa Mesa. Easily explains the physics of the trick so a novice like me could understand.

It's an easy trick to flip. The commitment part is the hardest. It's kinda flipping behind you like a front shove.

Had these on lock for years . Stopped skating over the winter and now I lost mad flat ground tricks including hard flip which was my go to. Idk if it’s my new setup and new shoes or what. Shits frustrating

do you look at your back foot or front foot when you pop it?

No matter what I try I can’t do them. I get so close but I mess up the flick when I go to jump. Lately I’ve tried to kick flip early and do a normal fs pop shiv and I get so close to landing them I feel like I can almost do it but I’m missing something. I might just not be committing fully.

the most annoying part of this trick is that you keep missing the flick no matter how much you press on the board...
