#BlackMagicCraft #Episode264

Pigment powders from model companies are a fantastic tool, and worth the cost in many cases. There is an awesome, much cheaper, alternative that gives you more colour variety though. Using chalk pastels to make your own pigment powder on demand is a great option for for hobbyists and model makers.

Oh here's a thought on grinding up pastel chalk get some pill pulverisizers. These are cheap will grind it to powder some you could use to hold your favorite color pigments inside. Also so many ways to seal the chalk is fun to experiment.

Great video I just started building terrain and playing RPG games and your channel is great. Also, feel your pain as I threw out my back two weeks ago and couldn’t move for three days. But after 2 weeks I’m able to move without much pain.

Tip that helps. Buy some cheap low grit sandpaper (Dollarama sells some). Tear off a small piece and grind the chalk pastels into it. It makes quick work of the chalk pastels and you don't have to worry about large chunks coming off.

I created my assortment of colored pigments by completely grinding up each piece on a piece of 80-grit sandpaper (inside my airbrush booth to reduce dusting). I then stored each color separately in a small container I got in an 8(?) pack at the dollar store. Total for everything was less than US$15 and they have served me well! I understand that the solid pieces store nicely but I didn't want to start "shaving" whenever I need a pigment, and the small containers store nicely.

I used mineral spirits for sealing pigments or dry pastels for years, until i discovered ultra matt varnishes. Either mix them with it and apply, or airbrush after applying in dry. Works like a charm and mantains the super dusty look.

I grew up using pastels to shade action figures.. I always thought it was kind of a lost art since most use airbrushes to create those effects. I thought they looked really good. We'd use matte varnish to seal them and it made the colors pop even more. If you use a smaller stiffer brush and scrub the chalk directly you can get a lot more control when shading like a fold in a cape etc.

When you walked in, I said to my hubby that you've had snow! Even before you said anything!
With a small brush and a clear sealant you can do minis as well (I should think, Poppen Atelier does doll makeovers with pastels)
Get well soon! Cheers from snowy Finland <3

This is also how a lot of doll customizers do their blushing and shading. It's neat when my hobbies overlap skills! :D
