I'm 38 years of age, my parents began attending a Reformed/Calvinistic denomination when I was age 7. I had been trained in the Heidelberg Catechism over and over, with memorization of the questions and answers. I was absolutely convinced it was correct. I've changed my mind slowly over the last few years and recently gave up on Calvinism. This guy's insight blows me away. He explains my exact way of thinking as a Calvinist. I honestly wasn't trying to be arrogant, I just thought I was correct because I thought it was taught in the Bible and the only logically consistent view out there.

You answered why I make little sense when I am in defensive mode. I always make myself look bad when I do it. There are people I have known for a long time that find it easy to get me into that mode so you answered that too.

Narcigesis! Hahaha haha. Thank you Kevin. So funny. That Spurgeon quote is exactly that.

I whenever Kevin says, “The great giants of the faith” 😂😂😂 “the sovereign grrrrace” 😂😂😂 I’m sorry it’s too funny because it’s been my experience with Calvinists.

The comment you make re: Jeff Durbin around 1:16:45 is spot on. I’m studying Romans 9 with a friend and we’re reading a MacArthur commentary. I mentioned to her that I find it odd how he keeps speaking of/referencing Calvinism/TULIP but he refused to actually come out and say it. It felt duplicitous, as if he was trying to indoctrinate the reader without them knowing it. I couldn’t get past how strange that was but my friend, who is on the fence about the validity of Calvinism, didn’t even notice until I pointed it out and then thought nothing of it. This is how people get deceived.

They so do this!
Has anyone ever told you that you and Spurgeon actually look alike?

Spurgeon admitted that the predestination doctrine was at odds with preaching the gospel. Spurgeon said that he believed both (even though there appears a contradiction), and he would continue to practice both.

Was watching this Netflix series (it turned out to be terrible. I quit watching it) and this politician made an observation about his constituents that their pride is in their humility. He appealed to their humility to win them over. Interesting stuff Kevin thank you for taking the time to make this video.

When I started questioning my former pastor about Calvinism being Bible the first thing he did was accuse me of being prideful.

Poor Charles. Looks as if he tripped up there. "I'm sure he chose me before I was born, or else he never would have chosen me afterwards..." Is foreknowledge only a matter of convenience depending on the defense? Does Charles not think God knew what a sinner he would turn out to be?

When discoursing with a calvinist, you must be able to separate the wheat statements from the chaff statements.

This was a great video on a Spurgeon quote. One of our pastors loves him. My only complaint is I’m very simple minded and when explaining NERC and all the things to watch out for, it started getting very complicated. Most people don’t have all these different words in their vocabulary. It was over my head that way. I understood what you were trying to say but just wish the terms could have been simplified a bit. I felt it took away from what you were essentially saying.

Listening to this, and tying into your previous video about Axioms, it is all the more important for us to really hold to the preservation of scriptures, so that we can have high certainty that the words we are using are the correct words, and the definitions of those words are also correct. Too often with modern versions (namely the ESV in recent times), everything gets lost in special interests that conflate words like election with man-made doctrines leading to a whole generation of people who believe that both are the same. So sad.

Ideologue is the perfect word for it. They remind me of the CRT people I met at university that saw everything through the lens of Marxism.

"He chose me before I was born, or else He never would have chosen me afterwards"... LOL that defies both his own doctrine of unconditional election by supposing his actions would matter... and denies the omniscience of God by suggesting God did not know how 'nasty' Charlie would be before He 'elected' him. Furthermore, the whole idea of Calvinist 'election' is not that he was 'chosen' but that he was 'created' elect from before time and just walked around unknowingly awaiting his salvific 'awakening'.
Spurgeon was a very confused and conflicted evangelist with a profound gift for oratory. His earnest desire to save the lost was in constant juxtaposition to the limitations of his Calvinist doctrine.

Well, this is interesting. I have known about this Nerc idea for some time and I think God has been wanting me to not use it in my own speech to try and convince people of what I believe. At least I think God is convicting me of doing that. I could be wrong but I do think he convicts people of things that he does not want them doing. Again I could be wrong it just seems that this is what he wants me to not do. So again a good video.

Kevin, what would you say is the basis for using the Inductive Method? Would it be: logic? scientific method? tradition? culmination of western thinking? etc.
