Bro thank you for this affirmation, i know that i am a slow learner, but i always fail to double up my effort. I settle things with the way how my other classmates make things done faster than mine. I also believe there is no other way, but to study 3x, practice 3x and pushing self to the limit.

I am like that; active learning does not work for me. I must understand what is being taught, before I can apply the content. I know that other people immediately understand, but the learning is not sustained. It is more performance than real learning- where long term memories are created, to be later accessed for transfer. if I had known the things I know now about learning, I would never have measured myself against the 'grab and go' learners. My learning style is slow and steady. I must have a consistent pattern of study and revision, not only studying for the purpose of passing an exam; it is studying to build a firm and transferable knowledge base. The key is to recognise how you learn.

This is one of the worst things to be in life because after feeling like a failure in school & barely making it out of there then there's the world of work. I always look stupid to others because of my bad memory & the fact that it takes me forever to master things. So imagine working in a fast pace environment with my short comings, then getting confused disability has made me so depressed in life. And to make it worst I am really forgetful . I feel like my whole life is a challenge.

I am sorry you went through these harsh feelings man... but bear in mind, that there are many environmental factors that affect your speed of doing things. Another thing, you may be slow at learning languages, but quick at soaking up math. You can be slow at certain things, and quick at other things. It is also important to find which learning style suits you specifically for which task. Be calm, be focused and free your mind before approaching a problem/task. Slow thinkers tend to be perfectionists as well, and explore stuff to the smallest of details, or view problems from many different angles. Slow thinkers tend to be deep thinkers and analytical. Very few people are quick and deep thinkers (thats a rare intelligence). Consider many possibilities before jumping to the conclusion that there is a biological component to your lack of efficiency compared to other people. I met a scientist (very high IQs) who never learned how to tank a car. He just couldnt. Amount of common sense lacking by his side was astounding. And he doesnt suffer from any sort of learning disability.

I totally feel you bro. I'm always stupidly slow. Let me tell you a story. I got lucky to study at one of the top institutions despite being sluggish. I struggled so badly during the time in that school. Whenever I didn't put effort, I got D or F, absolutely. However, when I tried really really hard, I could be ranked top 1% for the class and understood my subject deeply. However, being slow is still painful. I can tell that my coworkers are not happy about me being slow, and they absolutely think I'm much less intelligent. It hurts me hard even though I almost accept being not so brilliant and extremely slow. Life is just more difficult for us.

This is a very interesting perspective and I’ve definitely have another view on being a slow learner, due to the fact that I have a learning disability myself it’s hard to retain certain information in some circumstances but I’ve generally always perceived it as a curse, hence why this video has gave me a sense of encouragement.

Great content!

Man I go back to school tomorrow but I’m such a slow leaner some things takes me sometimes days to get through I have so much things on my mind I don’t know how other people learn so fast I mean wow but everything is different a lot of times I’m not motivated but even when I am it still takes time for me to get it I get so overwhelmed and I just wanna quit I try anyways but I just need some type of medication or treatment or a one on one teacher like tutoring or something like that because I need to pick up something and stick with it I’m about to be a senior and I feel like I’ve gotten nowhere I remember some things I’ve learned over all my school years through elementary middle school and high school but most of the things I should know I don’t and I want to tell someone but they will just think I’m retarded or stupid but I’m not I’m smart but it’s just my disability I see all things smart kids and people but I don’t see them appreciate their gift and they just throw it away like trash while someone like me could do something with it I honestly don’t understand but I’ll just see where life takes me and I will hope for the best and everything goes alright.

There is a huge problem with the advice: Your success depends on other people being lazy.

So what if the smart people around you are already spending all their free time studying? How can you survive? This is usually the case at an advanced level (e.g. top tier college, working at a top tier company like Google, etc.).

In any case, I don’t think “working hard” is the right solution. A better strategy is to find out why you are slow and fix the problem.

Say you are slow at math. Sure, why? Perhaps you are a visual learner and the professor is a verbal teacher. Then go onto Khan Academy and start learning visually. Or perhaps your brain is just not built for math. Sure, maybe you are meant to be an artist. Find that thing that you love, want to excel, and can excel. Try different ways to learn more efficiently. Once you have done the two steps, then start working as hard as you can.

Never start by working hard. You have to know how to work smart and work passionately before you work hard.

This is not a solution... A slow learner still has to invest a lot of time... While a fast learner can achieve many things by that time

I really appreciate the time you put into this and effort, I have always been a slow learner as I didnt go to college I am a skilled laborer but it still makes things so hard when you dont catch on as fast as the rest. Thank you again.

Sometimes I would go to school and my friends would come up to me and start talking about stuff I didnt even know was real so i started torturing myself by watching boring study videos about how life and the world works but I still came back and beat myself up about being dumb and I dont know what to do

The main problem with investing MORE time than others is that we often DON’T HAVE more time because we’re too busy surviving. Especially to the students who are taking a minimum number of credits to receive aid. That’s what bothered me when I was in school and if I could go back in time, I would have only taken 1-2 classes a semester while working.

For slow learners in the work world, and even worse, entrepreneurship, we’re hit the hardest to the point of almost being screwed because an instant reply and solution is needed frequently.

I am like that what you described, except for having to put 4x effort. The quality of life such a person lives is so poor. Long workdays, busy weekends, few holidays, and constantly under tremendous pressure to keep up with peers. Jordan Peterson talked about such a life for people with low IQ in high IQ jobs, its miserable.
