Amazingly it’s compatible with the new Hero 7 too, plus these remotes have a much longer range (I think 600 feet) than the App (maybe 50 feet).

65 and learning. If I connect my smart remote to the Hero 5 will it override me using the camera manually? Or is this a one time hook up and I can use either? [I'm wanting to place my Hero 5 on the right rear of my boat with the wide angle setting to get both guys who will be fishing, but I don't want to go back there each time to have it start and or stop]. Am I thinking correctly on wanting to use the remote and to be able to stay in my seat while fishing?

This procedure was not working for me. After calling GoPro support one tip solved this for me and that was to reset the smart remote by resetting it (press power on/off for about 10 seconds)

Have you ever heard of the remote repeatedly freezing? Even in pairing mode too? Both of mine are brand new. A hard reset will work for a few minutes then frozen again... ugh
