Follow on Instagram for the Flashcards :

the nose and sinuses are supplied by the
internal carotid artery
facial and internal maxillary branches of the.
the superior part of the nose receives the anterior and posterior ethmoidal arteries - branches of the ophthalmic artery which itself, is a branch of the internal carotid.
the rest of the nose and sinuses is supplied by the greater palatine, sphenopalatine, and superior labial arteries, all of which are branches of the maxillary artery which itself, is a branch of the external carotid.
significantly there is a plexus of vessels on the anterior septum - Little's area or Kiesselbach's plexus - where branches of both the internal and external carotid artery anastamose; this is a frequent site for epistaxis.
venous drainage of the nose and sinuses is via the ophthalmic and facial veins, and the pterygoid and pharyngeal plexuses. Significantly, drainage is such that infection may spread via the veins to the cavernous sinus.
The fleshy external end of the nasal septum is sometimes also called columella. The nasal septum contains bone and hyaline cartilage.[2]

The nasal septum is composed of five structures:

perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone
vomer bone
cartilage of the septum
crest of the maxillary bone
crest of the palatine bone.

Thanks, I have been suffering from Epistaxis for about a year now and just knowing where the blood is coming from is a big help. Now when my doctors are talking to each other Ill understand a little of what they are saying.

Didn't really understand a thing maybe because I'm not a medicine student but I really like the voice! It's husky and very calming.

Short and simple; well explained, thank you! (and thanks for taking the time to edit your internal-external mix up mistake- those things drive me crazy xD)

well video!
the"internal carotid artery" at 1'54" should be "external"
it's correct on the picture but some mistakes happened in oral explanation and the subtitle

The sphenopalatine Artery participates in the anastomoses with the greater palatine artery, superior labial artery septal branches, anterior ethmoidal artery in Little's Area or Kisselbach's Plexus, you ommit this, also you say that posterior ethmoidal artery never participates in this anastomoses, I tend to disagree althought some scholars put it others don't. Also the posterior part of the nasal septum is supply by an anastomoses of the sphenopalatine artery, its own posterior nasal branches and ascending pharyngeal artery branches into woodruff's plexus

Good morning.
In this video you said that posteroinferior part of septum is supplied by sphenopalatine and greater palatine. And posterosuperior is supplied by posterior ethmoidal. But, in textbook of human anatomy by B.D.chausrasia it is mentioned that Posteroinferior is supp. by sphenopalatine only and posterosuperior by greater palatine.I think the book is having error.Am i right?

Sir ur videos are very informative . but im confused that the posterior superior lateral and medial branches are named only for nerve division of pterygopalatine ganglion supplying there in my book and not for arteries.

0:45 That's not bone. End the nasal bone earlier, since it meets the septum and lateral cartilages higher than where you indicate.
0:47 It would be worthwhile to show the gaps in the cribriform plate.

0:59 That's also not bone, it's lip.
1:01 The soft palate is also not bone.
