Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin OST - Dragonrider (Title)

Hardest boss in the game.
Dark Souls 2, despite its numerous flaws, is my favorite game from the Dark Souls trilogy. Indeed, the design of the world may be less crisp than its predecessor, and its boss designs not quite as clever and engaging as its progeniture. Nevertheless, there is some essence to Dark Souls 2 that makes it stand out from the rest, some artistry that brings it to a new level. For me, it's probably the atmosphere of the vast settings and themes of the story. There is beauty in this game, even in the most frustrating areas (looking at you, Shrine of Amana). Nearly every area has a distinct air about it that truly makes you feel like you're traveling the length and breadth of an entire kingdom, bearing witness to the varied lands within. And the story? Good gracious, what a story. The ending of the original release stands well enough on its own, effectively critiquing the choice in the first game. However, Aldia's introduction in later updates completely flipped the script. No longer must the progeny of The Furtive Pygmy pay penance for the asinine acts of an ancient lord! Nay, for there may be means with which we can reject our bonds and cut our chains! Perhaps, even abandon our thrones...
