In this video I'm showing you how to install a concrete sidewalk.
We start off by forming the concrete walkway with 2x4's. You'll be able to see how we set the forms, pin them, straighten them and get them to grade.

Then I show you how we pour the concrete for the sidewalk and also a small concrete walkway leading out of a back door.

We're using a 4000 psi concrete mix withe air-entrainment for freeze/thaw climate and it also has fibermesh in it for reinforcement.

Lastly, you be able to see how we finish a concrete walk. First we use a concrete edger to "cut" in our edges. Then we install our grooves (expansion joints) using a hand groover.

Once edging and grooving are done, we mag float the surface and broom finish the concrete. We like to leave the finished "tool" mark on the edger and groover to give the concrete sidewalk a picture frame look and make it look more appealing.

I just retired as a cement mason after 45 yrs. I did alot of curb and gutter with the machine and sidewalk right behind the curbs. We would pour almost a mile of curb in these sub divisions tract homes. Couple days later we would pour the sidewalks, 100 cubic yards a day. Did it fir many years, we would never run shiners on the joints or edges. Differant finishes through out the USA

That's the way my concrete boss wanted every job, nice & neat, never brooming wet concrete to get off the job faster. He never advertises & still has lots of work, just from word of mouth. You do nice work!
