This video will show you when to start finishing concrete after you pour it.

If you're pouring a concrete sidewalk, patio, walkway, pool deck, or driveway, this video will teach you when to start edging, mag floating, and broom finishing the concrete.

Finishing concrete at the right time will be the difference between a really nice looking job and a not so nice looking job.

Knowing when to start is a matter of understanding how concrete reacts to a number of different factors.

Some of those factors are air temperature, how wet or dry you pour the concrete, sub-base material, if the concrete is in the sun or shade, just to name a few.

In the video I show you how to check the concrete and what to look for before you start your concrete finishing process. Starting too early or too late can have a big impact on how hard you have to work and how good or bad the final outcome is.

I’m a DIY (Do IT Yourself) beginner doing a small area patio. Thank you for your videos. I really appreciate the step by step teaching. I especially like the way you don’t talk too fast & you demonstrate your work. Thank you!

For those that don't get it, you edge when still wet because the rocks will push out of the way easily, two late and they resist movement.

This is the best step by step I’ve seen on the basics of concrete finishing!! Very concise and to the point. Thanks so much!

The superb skills and workmanship demonstrated here are just incredible, especially when compared to the poor workmanship most of us have to usually accept because better workers cannot be found locally. It is a real pleasure to see here how things are SUPPOSED to be done! Thank you for posting. I have hired out for a number of residential concrete jobs, and each time experienced a litany of nightmarish failures and incompetencies. I could write a book on it all.

Mike, this is my first time watching you and I’ve got to say how beautifully you explained the processes and was well filmed too! ( I particularly liked the look of the border that the edging tool left so I would be tempted to put that back in as part of my finish if I was going for a smooth path). Beautiful work buddy, greetings from Royal Berkshire UK 🇬🇧

I did concrete for about 10 years for my old man's business as general labor. Long story short, I'm a teacher who is now thinking about getting back into the business. Thanks for the video, it was a great refresher.

Thank you, Mike. I've got a driveway to do soon, and your videos have given me the information and confidence to tackle that job!
There are a lot of "how to" videos, yiu are one of the very few that actually give useful, detailed information. I truly appreciate your videos and expertise.

You are a scientist when i comes to concrete .. great understanding and explanations. Poured a 800sq ft floor in a basement of a pre ww1 building that had a very thin pour of concrete already ... and it came out great .. thanks to your instructions. good thing i was told by you about the amount of bleed water to expect
