A video showing you how to replace your rotted wood window trim with PVC vinyl trim board. I never replace my rotted wood with anything but PVC vinyl as it will last a lifetime and never need to be replaced again!

These PVC boards can be found at any big-box hardware store and come in several varieties. They come in the same nominal dimensions as wood and are easy to install. Just make sure you get a PVC/Vinyl fastening system to install your trim!

You are amazing. You can make anything and now you’re teaching home repairs. Thanks for this amazing video. Make sure Andrew sees this one.

Totally the kind of project I'd blindly walk into (and at some point ask myself if I really know what I'm doing!) You made it very approachable. Also, nice guns, Lefty.

I'm going to be building a house soon and I'm going to use this from the get-go so I never have to replace them. :)

YouTube is blocking the "Comment Bar" on cell phones! PVC is great stuff for trim. I have 2 stationary windows that are slanted at the tops. $1, 450 each, W/O labor is discouraging! PVC has come down in price and some are using regular PVC glue with the plug caps over screws. The sill and brick molding is rotting after 34 years. I can't tell where it stops but butts up to the glass. A vibratory cutter would make short work by installing a temp narrow filler strip the remove the old. It has a good cap but the bottom of the brick molding was never sealed wicking water up the fibers of the wood. Just looking for support as I am living here until my boots leave first. Thoughts? Thanks for the informative video.
ASE Master retire / decent wood worker. Thanks!!!

Where did you get the right size pvc vinyl? Seems that the standard is 5.5" wide - Ours are 5" wide so it will be a bear to cut just a half inch off each board. Neither Home Depot, Lowes or Menards will cut anything along the length although they clearly have the tools to do it quickly. We have a smaller too but it will be a tedious process for us to cut it bit by bit. Where did you or anyone else reading this purchase their PVC vinyl for this job?

Do you think I should consider adding any extra tape flashing before putting the PVC trim board up?

Great video, thanks!

Would you recommend only replacing boards that are rotted and mismatching wood/vinyl?

I have a couple windows where 3 of the 4 trim boards are good and just need new paint.

Thanks

flashing should be folded at the corner to provide more water resistance, but yeah that's more work...

I was wondering if you would be able to answer a question....can you remove capping to view the condition of a wood frame without completely removing the window? Thanks.

Maybe that OG wood wouldn’t have rotted out if the drip cap was installed correctly to begin with

With the drip cap and everything I wonder why the trim had rotted to begin with.

What? This can't be the correct way to trim out a window. If it is I apologize but where's the j mouldings? How can this be a watertight seal?
