BEST Driver's Cars 2024: £15k And Under!

Показать описание
Sam Sheehan reveals his favourite drivers' cars for under £15,000! These five stars each have their own blend of power, handling and practicality, but all provide the same result: a big smile on your face. Plus, they all offer reasonable running costs, and needn't cost the Earth to insure, either.
The Mazda MX-5 is a lightweight two-seater sports car with spiritual ties to the Lotus Elan of the 1960s. It provides old-school sports car thrills, with a welcome sprinkling of modern usability and creature comforts where it matters. Powered by a 2.0-litre engine with 160hp, the car we've featured can crack the 0-62mph sprint in 7.3 seconds, or achieve 40.9mpg combined. The Mazda MX-5's insurance group is 29E.
The Ford Fiesta ST mixes five-seat hatchback practicality with punchy turbocharged performance, with a 1.5-litre engine that produces 200hp, and agile handling to rival the best hot hatches ever made. It can sprint from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds, or achieve 44.1mpg combined. The Ford Fiesta ST's insurance group is 25E.
The Abarth 595 is essentially a city car flying high on a heavy dosage of caffeine. Rorty, and definitely loud and proud, the Abarth in our film uses a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine with 145hp. It can sprint from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds. Drive sensibly, and you'll get 47.1mpg combined. The Abarth 595's insurance group is 29U.
The Mini Cooper we've chosen uses a BMW 1.5-litre engine and six-speed manual gearbox, so it feels tough and powerful, despite its compact footprint. With 136hp it can go from 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds, or, if you drive normally, it can achieve 54.3mpg combined. The Mini Cooper has an insurance group of 21E.
The BMW M140i is a rear-wheel drive hatchback with six-cylinder power. It feels old school, yet with 340hp from its 3.0-litre engine, performance is bang up to date. 0-62mph takes just 4.6 seconds with the automatic gearbox of our Shadow Edition car, yet the engine can average 39.8mpg combined if you're behaved. The BMW M140i is in insurance group 38E.
