Japanese Mythology, Persian Mythology and Celtic Mythology deserve more recognition, these three mythologies are hella underrated in my perceptive.

My two favorite Japanese legends are:

- Yuki-Onna: in a snow storm a very beautiful woman with pale skin and silver rope asks her victims for help and she drag them to the unknown and after tiring them out she kills them, and in other stories she asks her victims to give them her silver rope in exchange for their most precious item, and if they agree she kills them and takes their hearts ( since their lives are their most precious items)

And

Kuchisake-onna: a masked woman with a big knife or scissors usually found in small dark alley, she ask her victims if she is pretty or not, if they said no she kills them, if they said yes she remove her mask which reveal a big scare and ask again if they answered no she kills them, if they said yes then she give them the same scares as hers

The Enenra, a Japanese smoke creature, is one of the most interesting pieces of Japanese mythology that I don’t know anything about other than entry level information. It would be awesome to learn more about it.

The Kappa has always been one of my favorite Japanese Mythological Creatures.

Genshin Impact have these yokai as well! Kujou Sara for Tengu, Arataki Itto and Takuya for Red and Blue Oni respectively, Yae Miko for Kitsune and Ioroi as the bake-danuki sealed in stone, all from Inazuma!. Glad to see Noelle included on the video about bake-danuki!

For Kappa, you didn't mention how they're incredibly polite and will always bow in response to a Human bowing to them. This causes the water in the dish on top of their heads to fall out, freezing them in place. Replacing the water gains their eternal loyalty while also unfreezing them.

I think…I’ve seen a waifu version of at least all of these. Ah, Japan. Taking the creatures that you fear or revere and say “What if but cute anime girl?” The duality of man.

I’m familiar with several of these creatures through the Pokémon series, the Fleshy Souls version of Yo-Kai Watch 2, and the recently released Netflix show Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles (really good show, watch it if you haven’t seen it yet).

Honorable Mentions:
*Yamata-No-Orochi
-An 8 headed dragon slain by Susanno-o in old legends. This creature has been featured in Okami, and was also the basis for the pokemon, Hydreigon.
*Namahage
-Basically Japan's version of the boogeyman. They wander villages at night looking for naughty children to abduct
*Kamaitachi
-These weasels have razor-like limbs like a whirlwind of blades. One appears as a boss in Nioh 2 and it is also the basis for the Pokemon, Sneasel and its evolved form, Weavile.
*Nurikabe
-Looking like a giant stone slab with eyes. They appear as enemies in Nioh.

Great video, Watch Mojo. Could you do a video of creatures from a mythology that not many people know about?

So you do a list of the 10 Coolest Creatures in Japanese Mythology but didn’t include the Yuki-onna? That’s cold.
😁

There are so many more. You should make a top 20 or even top 30 with honorable mentions.

My brother’s partner is a huge fan of Japanese culture, so when I was setting up my D&D game, I suggested that she might enjoy playing a Kitsune, which was a homebrew race I had found somewhere. She loved the idea, and I suddenly realized that I was going to have to fill in the lore around the race myself! I spent an entire week doing nothing but researching Japanese folklore, and writing a Genesis-style story for the Kitsune race. I had an absolute blast, and gained a good love of the culture myself. I sure had some bizarre, surreal nightmares after learning about the yokai, however!

This is why i like Japan:
1. Japanese Mythological Creatures/Yokai
