you have done it wrong the bottle is taken from the bottom and the cork is not stopped once the basket is released.

I learned to open sparkling wines from... Champagne. You hold the cork with your palm and rotate the bottom of the bottle with your hand. No popping sound. Just a slight hiss like this video !

Twist the cork not the bottle. It’s safer to hold the bottle at 45 degrees from your body so most of the pressure is hitting the upper side of the bottle, not directly up the cork.
