Something I find absolutely wild is how close the gearing is to a 6-speed Allison transmission. The 4th gear on those (with a standard 3.73 axle ratio) is also 1:1! Absolutely insane engineering thought process!

How is that an automatic transmission, when you need to shift it?

I once made an automatic transmission, but the mechanism was not the point of it. I wanted it to automatically shift gears.

I used a differential to detect torque increase of the input of the transmission. Then the torque variation is measured by a motor (mindstorms motor with angle sensor). Another motor change the gear ratio.

The transmission itself was not well built, but whenever the input torque increased to a certain level, it shifted to lower gear.

With your transmission, it would be awesome!

unique issue r u sure about the ratio?
looks like your ratio is calculated on the ring gear instead of the input shaft your 4th gear should be 16/56 around 0, 28 rotation not 1 am i missing something?

I think you don't understand the concept of automatic gearbox
it is about adapting from the load, not about you switching 15 different levers
