Sad, sad, sad for this man. May he rest in peace. These "girls", all "criminals", need to be charged as "adults". They've ruined their lives and need to pay the price. Awful, just awful. Shame on them. At 13, they know right from wrong. Let them stew on what they've done. May this man RIP and prayers for his friends and family. God rest his soul.

Charge them as adults and let those demented creatures rot. They have no future value to society.

“Young ladies”
is not an appropriate way to describe these evil monsters!!! Lock them up!!

So a group of 8 swarms someone, stabs him to death and they are charged with second degree murder? Whatever happened to first degree murder charges?

Torontonian here; we're disgusted. Beyond that, horrified. What are these young girls doing in the downtown core at that hour?....that's just to begin with. Where are their parents? Honestly, we're confounded because the details surrounding the group and their activities are limited.

When you gang-up on a lone person, 8 to 1, it's gang behavior.

Maybe the parents should be held accountable as well why are these young kids out at this hour of the night. Sad.

How do teenagers get to this point in their lives?

I feel like at that age the parents should also be held accountable. This is so evil and wrong.

A major Toronto newspaper headlined it a “Tragedy.” It would have been a tragedy if this were somehow an accident. The tragedy was that headline.

It was after midnight, and kids only 13 and 14 were still out on the streets in cold winter. This seems to indicate low-quality parenting.

Absolutely sick and heartless behavior.

The real issue is the Canadian “justice” system. All of these girls are probably already out on bail, no joke. I was born in Toronto, it’s a different place now.

Im sure at some point at least a few of the girls started thinking this was a bad idea but didn’t say anything or recuse themselves bc they didn’t want to be an outsider.

Teach your kids it’s ok not to be liked if their friends are murderous psychopaths.

I was once swarmed in Edmonton by a large group of 15 or so preteen boys (probably 10-12). I managed to run away and took refuge in a store. I'm still grateful to the storekeeper for saving me. It was a very scary incident. My sincere condolences to the man's family and friends. Nobody deserves to die like that. As juveniles, they'll likely get a couple of years in jail and probation, with maybe not even a criminal record.

Hold the parents responsible for their child's crimes

Social media is great way to find people with the same interests to come together for a meet-up event.

This is the type of story people often use to claim that American society is sick and violent. I pity our neighbors up north now have to undergo something as vicious and cruel as this.

I say the laws need to be changed. The parents should also be charged and made to do community work. The parents should not hold a criminal record for this but they should be forced to pay into community. The kids need to serve some time for this along with rehabilitation.
