Good video. Florida resident here too. I moved here about 5 years ago from PA. In PA I had Nationwide insurance (I used them for about 20 years with no accidents). When I wanted to transfer my policy to FL, my car ins would have been $1500 more so I switched to Progressive which was a few hundred less (than in PA) for the same coverage. Two years later, our home owners insurance massively went up (we had it thru a separate agency because it was cheaper at the time). We priced around and have been with State Farm for three years. All of the policies are combined (full coverage auto for 2 cars--2010, 2017, homeowners, and my husband has an additional policy for something). In 2021 it was $325/month, 2022 $328/month, and this year $395/month (that's for all of the policies combined and spaced out/$500 deductibles). No auto accidents/tickets in 20+years and no home claims.

Yes, I think the price is high. However, when I factor in that my house is worth 30x what my home was in PA and my homeowners insurance there was much much more....I'm cool with it. In addition to weather damage for increased prices in FL, one also has to factor in inflation for replacement costs, and the $billions in additional claims that companies have to cover for other cities in states that promote theft and arson. Someone has to pick up that tab too!

My tips on keeping costs low: price compare, combine polices, look over your policies (there might be things your paying for that you dont need or are duplicated in something else), and vote accordingly (one can disagree but this is the easiest way to save money overall).

Good luck and blessings to all.

We have Gieco and have had for over a year. Had Progressive previously and they jacked our rates up so badly, we had to change.
That being said, it is a pain to do, but everyone should check into insurance rates at different companies every 6 months to every year. Insurance rates vary and flipping back and forth can get better deals. Check brokers and check companies on your own. If you just stay with a company they increase rates knowing you're too lazy to search elsewhere.

Thank you for this video! It was posted right on time. I am experiencing the same with insurance as a Sarasota resident getting slammed by doubled HOA fees as well. I am looking today into St. Pete and surround for a possible move. I thought of your channel and a video you did that showed around the St. Pete neighborhoods and clicked on YouTube to rewatch it and some others.

Great video guys! My wife and I are planning a move to Tampa in the winter, and although this is newsworthy it isn’t surprising to me. When we were in Florida back in March to visit family, we saw more of the usual; heavy traffic, fast drivers, following to close, and little or no turn signals. :) We we’re rear ended in the freeway during stop and go traffic in Ocala on our way from Tampa to Gainesville. Thankfully we had our rental car covered under our Amex Platinum card, which fully covers rental car insurance. What I’m also interested in seeing is the trend in homeowners insurance costs following the recent changes made in the Florida State legislature. Overall, we will be getting a price break for our cost of living by moving to Tampa from Washington State. Right now one of our expenses is paying a largely inflated car registration fee to fund light rails from Seattle to the east side. We are paying over $700 per year to register our two vehicles.

My girlfriend, mid 30's, zero accidents, insurance on 2 cars, one paid off went from $520-1100 a month. Literally doubled. Progressive insurance. She called the general and got same coverage with limits for 480. It's crazy as she has a flawless driving history.

I always love when you spice up the channel with videos related to more practical issues with living in Florida. It all seems so sad to me...inflation in general and the Big Squeeze corporations are putting upon average citizens in the name of greed. I wonder if there will come a time when you and Jaime will decide living in Florida is simply not worth the cost. Great job with this one, Skylar! 🙂

Florida is a “no fault” state. I’ve lived here (Manatee county) less than a year and not sure how/if this impacts auto insurance. About four months after moving here I ran a very unscientific experiment regarding the amount of advertisements on TV that are from lawyers. Watching the FOX 13 news from Tampa on a Tuesday morning from 6 to 7AM during each commercial break 3 out of every 5 commercials involved lawyers and, specifically legal services for auto accidents. The amount of advertising on TV and billboards for legal services is quite dramatic for someone moving from another state.

Nice vlog idea! Travel and exploration requires a car so this was helpful. We use Progressive and have a 2011 and a 2018 car and we are set to renew Sept 1st for $1200 for 6 months. We also use the pay in full option which saves us a TON. Have a good week! Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you so much for this video. I live in North Carolina and me and my family were recently vacationing in Indian rocks Beach. We could not help but notice all of the billboards about auto accidents. We did notice a hike increase with our insurance here in North Carolina as well. Our insurance is going to double soon because we are adding our teenage son to the policy. State Farm is our insurance company and they offer a discount because we also have home owners insurance with them as well.

So interesting you made this video around the time we have just signed of for a car insurance! The price increase dropped our jaws and they said they will increase even more sooner that later!

Ya....a few years ago when my regular big nationwide company went up, again, and thats with no tickets, and never a claim, I called an independent Insurance agency, best thing I did, I told them "find me the cheapest".

I used to race a lot, had a bad driving record when I was younger, now I have a perfect record.
I have a 2002 corvette, 1100 hp, a 2017 Denali truck, a 2014 Chevy Malibu and a 2011 97-X Saab suv. It cost us $$4200 for the year for all of them, I pick and chose the coverage with Liberty Biberty

I have Geico. I pay $70.00 average on a monthly automatic payment from my credit card. I have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. Never an accident or ticket. (One ticket at an airport. I had to pay City of Clearwater for being in a tow zone. It was DARK & I didn't see the sign 20 feet away.) AM staying with Geico cuz I know they have Capital - ASSETS. (A friend went with another local small company & she couldn't get any payment. The court said they had no money, but they took hers.)

Wow! So expensive! I'm now paying about $69 a month here in Ontario, Canada for a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. We did switch insurance companies this year as our rates went up with the old company. Shopping around is key! Thanks for the interesting and informative video 🙂

Was hit in an intersection by 2 illegal aliens. They ran, police chased them on foot & caught them. They had no car insurance. I didn't want my car insurance rate to go up, so I paid for the damages myself. Wasn't too much.

So get this! My homeowners used to be $1400 when I bought this house 8 years ago. It ticked up to $4000, then my company went out of FL. The company who picked it up just sent me a renewal for over $8000 with a $16, 000 deductible. I’ve already put in weeks worth of frustration in getting a better deal. Even going to Citizens will cost me 20% more than last companies quote. My best bet is to cancel the ins and make friends on the other coast in case of disaster.

We're in Iowa and ours went up a little since last year...a 500 increase. We're at around 3200 per year and that is with two 2020 vehicles with full coverage.
My old 66 Mercury runs 79.00 per year as it gets less than 5000 per year put on it.
