How to record electronic drums (with an interface)

This video shows how to record electronic drums when using an interface, using direct outputs and creating audio tracks in your DAW. Kit displayed in video is a Roland TD30. This recording technique should work on all similar models.

Recording any musical instrument can be frustrating....drums are no different, if not worse! This video is for those who own a Vdrum kit and have never attempted to record, but would like to start. I believe the instructions are easy to follow, but then again, I've been doing it for some time....so if there are any parts that need clarification, please let me know!

Do you NEED an audio interface? NO, but HIGHLY advised. I have found that with the addition of an interface, the signals from the module are boosted and you get a louder, clearer sound than without one. Not to mention the EQ capabilities that you normally wouldn't have. I also strongly recommend a decent-quality DAW. Many drummers use Audacity and other similar low-end programs, but when it comes to your drums, you get what you pay for. I am using Ableton Live 9 studio suite, and so far, very happy with it.

Thank you for the support!

I just recently got an Alesis Command X mesh kit and the module for it is definitely nowhere near as much as this TD30 module.
I was wondering if I could just take a guitar cable, plug it into the mono output of my Command module, and the other end into my Behringer UMC204HD interface? I won't be able to track individual pads but as long as i could get one solid recording while also using EZDrummer for kit sounds, that'd be ideal
