This is actually not an advice to artists, but an advice to people about art.

As an artist I can truly say that it's not a choice. Just going out and buying bread I see so many things, and people think I'm weird for pointing them out. You have no idea how many people think I'm "weird" for just seeing what's obvious to me, and they give me a wide berth... until they see me onstage. Then everything changes.

Man does not live by bread alone, we live by beauty, we live by literature, we live by art. 💫

This is spot-on. I am an artist, poet, and author. In my writings and art, I don't feel as though I am the one creating it. I ask for guidance before painting (or writing poetry), and it's like getting out of my own way and allowing the creative to use me as a conduit. It's a very exhilarating and juicy space. I don't even know what I've done until it's complete and I stand back to look. For me, it is the PROCESS I love.

In my early twenties I wrote on an index card "if I don't write, I'll die, ' and hung it over my computer. More than 10 years and 2 moves later, it's still up there and I'm a published author. I still find myself repeating that line to myself.

As an artist, listening to this with tears in my eyes, I cannot thank you enough Jordan Peterson.

When you are creative your mind never stops. It keeps going all night and day. It is both a blessing and hindrance. I think it is both remarkable and sad when gazing upon the masters of the past. Those creatives may have had some success and favorability in their time periods, some regarded as quacks others as rock stars of their age, and to see their works still around is a testament to their beautiful bodies of work, but we all know many of them never made their fortune from their works, making the adage "starving artists" come into being, yet now their works sell for those million to billion dollar price tags. That is the sad part. They didn’t get the acclaim until after their passing. So much beauty created for us to enjoy and they never got to see their work immortalized.

Everytime Jordan Peterson speaks he enlights me and inspires me like nobody, literally nobody did in my life. I am italian, surrounded by beauty, but nobody ever, in years, has ever taught me the meaning of beauty like Dr. Peterson did in 5 minutes video

This is why I love that man. We are a society without beauty, without soul. Our attachment to mass produced images, and even music, that we are told we should appreciate, is slowly eating our humanity, our souls. He speaks the truth. Find YOUR piece of beauty, hold onto it fiercely, cherish it, and ignore the hypnotized masses and their digital idols.

This is so nice to hear. I'm a homemaker who strives to make a homey beautiful space for the family. There's healing and hope in beauty.

What an amazing assessment of art and artists. Cannot live without it, or them.

beauty is the antidote to darkness... as an artist his passion and insight opened my eyes... and my heart wider

He is so correct. I am a painter and writer. I can’t go one single day without doing something creative. I feel lost otherwise. I love to go for walks and let myself create as I walk. Ideas and the love of art come to me and I go home and make my life beautiful with art.

I’m a musician/writer… it’s what keeps me going. It gives me reason, and joy, and surety within the fear. I also have schizophrenia so I’m hoping telling the story with it will help others kids struggling similarly who feel so very misunderstood and alone as I once did

I am an artist…Jordan has moved me to tears through his depiction of the creative state. He recognises the sublime passion that defines our out look and yes, without being able to bring out that desire to manifest creatively I implode. I don’t do blobs of colour that formlessly fetch millions..I paint and decorate and spend many hours perfecting an expression and it takes a God- given skill. It far eludes the bonkers price tags but I Thank the universes for every sale and more for my joy in expression! Thank you Jordan!,

Jordan Peterson is an exquisite gift to humanity - to those with the ears to hear. The urgency with which he shares his thoughts about creativity touches upon the notion that it is not just an indulgent pleasure but actually critical to the overall well-being and the direction that our collective future as a society will or will not take. 👏👏👏 "Make one thing beautiful!" 😊👍 Will do!

Spot on! I put my creativity aside due to bad religious judgment and I got extremely depressed! Once I started doing music and letting my creativity flow I healed my depression and reversed my autoimmune. Amazing video!

I needed to hear this. Lately I’ve been feeling like my creativity is a curse because I’m struggling to be okay with a boring, repetitious job that puts food on the table. I wish I could be satisfied with it but I feel like I’m dying inside a little more each day that I’m too tired to express myself creatively. I’d love to make a living off my art but unless the stars align just right it’s very difficult to do.

The fact is art exists in this really weird space in society where everyone values it and yet hardly anyone’s willing to spend money on it. Regardless of that fact, artists will always create because they have to scratch that annoying itch. And contrary to popular belief it’s not easy nor always fun to make art because you’re trying to recreate the perfect image or feeling in your head into real life and that process kinda sucks except for the occasions when something actually turns out the way you wanted it to.

On top of that it’s difficult to keep up the motivation long enough to finish something because another side effect of being creative is having “shiny object syndrome” where you get bored easily and want to move on to the next thing.
