Chopin's Waltz Op. 64 No 2. The penultimate waltz he published, and one of the last works he ever composed. In contrast to the grandeur in some of his more lively waltzes, Chopin was also a master of melancholy, as captured in this waltz. Even in the major theme, I can't help but feel something bittersweet - who knew the feeling of loneliness and longing could be so beautiful? I hope you have a great start to the week ♥

I saw my father playing this timeless piece when I was a kid. I am 82 now and I still remember watching his strong hands over the keyboard and the pleasure in his handsome face. When he was 18 my grandparents prompted him to apply for a scholarship in Europe, which he reluctantly did. When it was his time for a test, there was a sudden power outage in the building; my father said he would play anyway -which he did in the dark! The German professor wanted to take him to Europe right away! But my father said he preferred to remain studying in Montevideo, where he became an architect and math teacher --never stopping his piano playing.

I've been listening to a lot of Debussy lately - are there any pieces of his you want to hear?

My mom would play this on her baby grand when I was young. She's gone now, but this is the only piece that reminds me of her and of better days. Thank you for sharing.

There's such a beautiful, yet bittersweet feel to this. Chopin is a blessing to the human race, and so is Rousseau.

Every Chopin piece has that one part that gets stuck in your head

Merci, Chopin.

I remember when I was 6 I was doing the choreography in Russian school under this musical piece, this piece is very close to my heart and I still vividly remember how majestical it was. It was deadly quiet, you could only hear the rustle of ballet shoes. The smell of paint fills the old Soviet room with wooden poles and floor. The clumsy movements under this musical piece were not felt at all, you had a feeling of full control of your body. The pianist was an elderly woman with a Soviet mentality, she was strict and profound. However, when she played Chopin's music she was completely immersed in this melancholic atmosphere. As far as I know, she died 8 years ago in her old Soviet apartment. Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace.

This waltz just feels so different ... So mixed, so soothing yet something that makes one jump ... Different melodies combining into one:mostly happiness but anxiousness and curiosity at the same time

I love how you play it. A lot of others play waaay too fast, which drains a lot of the emotion out of it.

One of my favorite Chopin waltzes ever!!! 1:25 sounds like I'm having a glass of an expensive wine when actually I'm doing my homework ugly. Thanks Rousseau!! ❤️

Recently learned it, I learned so much about music theory, and the emotions Chopin had behind this. Encouragement to those who want to learn this:
*It's not that hard just practice practice practice*

this is why Chopin deserves a place as a genius of a kind in the romantic genre. Intelligence and rhythm, melody, and more. Great Play!

Rousseau makes me feel cultured even when I eat a whole bag of corn nuts during his videos.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane - I played this when I was 17 and used to play most of the piece with a great deal of restraint, and then for a flex played the last repeat of the high part at breakneck speed - it's always interesting hearing different musicians playing their own interpretations of the piece; think I prefer this version upon hearing it with mature ears. Thanks again.
