I investigate the 'catastrophe' at the end of the previous video then discover that a door has been opened revealing exactly how the simple clutch mechanism was designed thereby helping me to engineer an effective repair.

Would moving the clutch make any difference - by loosening the Allen grub screw ?

Goto store buy correct Allen key. Move assembly snug up set key and try it out. If clutch is slipping apply sticky back sand paper to the surfaces and assemble. This will work for many years

Don't glue the yellow gear to the shaft. If You glue them together, then when You operate those push buttons, the force experiencing by the tooth of yellow gear is very high and they will break. If the yellow gear is firmly attached to the shaft, then while the shaft is rapidly rotated by the push buttons, the tuning knob have to rotate together with the shaft through a heavy fly-wheel. That fly-wheel have a lot of inertia and it introduces a lot of pressure on gear tooth such that they will break. That is why the original designer introduced a clutch in between them. That clutch have to separate the fly-wheel from shaft while using the push buttons. (Jim's habit of tuning the radio by directly rotating the dial-drum without disengaging the the fly-wheel is the actual reason for the breakage of that clutch parts.)
The proper repair approach is to disassemble the FM dial mechanism and remove the clutch parts from shaft and glue the broken parts while they are out of the shaft. To do so, first Jim have to overcome his fear of loosening the set-screw of fixed clutch-plate. I know eventually Jim will reach at that that point, but not before a lot of his failed lazy short-cuts.

The metal disc between the yellow gear and the clutch is obviously meant to bind the clutch plates together and the metal tab engages with the yellow gear to pull that spring in the housing above, tight. Does this help the black push buttons engage ?

Because that’s what a car radio uses for tuning and when it fails that’s it because it’s all mechanical with gears and pulleys not a dial cable because of the presets (too many moving parts to wear out and break)

What does the cabinet for this chassis look like?

Your copper clutch plate is smoothed. Rough it up, clean and degrease it.

So, "said the moron" do you pull out the shaft with the yellow gear and the clutch and rotate it to then push in one of those black push switches ?

Yep it was going to fail sooner or later so that makes it a mechanical issue and a whole new problem that can’t be fixed because the parts are unattainable and that’s what led to the excessive play in the control because they just simply wore out and the only way to fix it is to dissemble the whole thing and that’s going to be a Royal pain in the arse and yes taking it apart and sacrifice the AM the only way would be to fuse the tuners together but the dial is another issue

How can one person be so clueless about so many things?

Weeks ago I wrote You that the right shaft of the yellow gear is broken, but You do not read comments here so You need needless time to fix it ! And after so many time You still do not understand how this clutchmechanism works.
