👍 this video just gave me more actual information than 2 consultation appointments with an ophthalmologist. I haven't had surgery yet, but I definitely need to.

I like doctors like this, who provide concise with no bull informative explanations. I would be confident to be treated by him. Thank you for your videos, doctor!

Thank you! for explaining the little infrequent flickering light in my recent cataract replaced eye. I thought it was muscle twitching, but was afraid it might be sign of retinal tear. No one else I've found on youtube, nor my own doctor/surgeon, has mentioned this at all.

Oh god thank you. Just had surgery two days ago and was worried about the arc effect on the periphery, also "flickering" there. Figured and hoped it might resolve and you seem to indicate it most likely will. God what a relief. ❤

Love this! I had RLE in California yesterday and I just woke up with “negative disphotopsia” (sp?). Shadow off to the right with a little flickering. So glad I found this video and this is not uncommon. Thx! (I AM typing this with no readers which is amazing. Only one eye has been done yet. ❤

Had a surgery last week in south Africa and the lens sees amazingly no shadows, not even floaters I guess I am of the lucky ones .barely discomfort or pain.

Great video and to the point. I had my surgery 10 days ago and also see the dark shadow but my vision is so much better. I am hoping the shadow goes away in the coming weeks like my Doctor and this very well done video says.

Thanks for your clear and to the point explanations. I am from Sydney, Australia. I had my left eye cataract surgery done on 8th November 2024. The IOL chosen was a mono focal Tecnis Toric II lens. I had notice a dark crescent show appears on the temporal corner of my eye, right from the day one after surgery. The vision is good I am happy. My question is why only some people experience this ND negative dysphotopsia, while others don't. Was it due to my eye? Was it due to the IOL lens was not positioned correctly by my surgeon? or was it due to the type of lens with square edge such as this Tecnis Toric II lens? it has now been 6 day pos op. The shadow is still there, its effect indoors is very faint and bearable. But in bright sun light outdoors the shadow gets darker. But when I wear a pair of glasses or put my palm up to cover my tempal..the shawdow appear to goes away while my palm is up or while I wear my glasses.🙁??

Thx for info, have that crescent shadow for 4 weeks hope it goes away s it's annoying. Vision is getting sharper but not there yet. My first op eye was great after a few days the 2nd op not the same.

Had clareon monofocal iol implanted in right eye cataract surgery done 2 months ago. From last 3 days symptom of flashing lights at night at right side or upper right corner of right eye. Retina specialist inspected retina and found retina to be stable and no pvd in right eye, he had done laser barrage 5 weeks before cataract surgery. What is the cause of flashing in right eye, when will they stop or will they go on increasing?

Hey Dr, do you have any idea why IOL optic is just 6mm in diameter? Wouldn't it be better to make it larger like 8 or 10 mm, so it resembles more to the natural lens?

The day after cataract surgery I noticed distortion at the focal point. Its been three months and still distortion. Again, only at the focal point. For example, when reading a street sign the letter or two I look at is distorted, everything else is in focus. All tests have been performed but nothing negative detected with retina. Also have some shimmering. 6 weeks after cataract surgery my retina tore and now have many large floaters. Surgeon says the tear is not cataract surgery related, but is age related. Despite all the bad luck I can see now without glasses and it is an overall improvement.

Hello Dr. Shelby.
Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise and especially for your compassion for us uninformed patients. I just subscribed.
I am 72 y/o male 6'5" with bilateral cataracts, +6.5 hyperopia and mild astigmatism in one eye. All other eye conditions are reported as unremarkable or WNL.
I am averse to the uncertainty of halos and starbursts of Multifocal or EDOF IOLs though I read that even monofocal lenses can result in some halo/starburst phenomena.
Is J&J enhanced monofocal Eyhance and/or Toric II version a reasonable compromise if I am willing to wear readers? I would like to be able to see my plate of food without glasses.
Friend who had Abbott Technis 1 Multifocal 15 years ago isn't aware of any dysphotopsias. Lucky girl?
Is there anything in the geometry of either Monofocal, EDOF or Multifocal IOLs that would make it more or less difficult to make progressive lenses that will correct any residual imperfections and give me stellar vision?

Thanks for your impressions.
