I like how it's like how this mode is kinda canon, the intro cutscene for this mode is canon, and it's a nightmare of a doorman in canon, but since it's a dream, it didn't actually happen.

This is a nightmare of the doorman, its obvious the mode is called nightmare mode, the cutscene tells you about mental issues and nightmares and the "if you ever see him at your dreams clown" appears sugesting that the player is dreaming.

The task of NEVER making a mistake every day or else you and everyone around you will die would make most people suffer.

The only argument I can make that this is the Doorman’s nightmare is the names of the “neighbors” such as Dispater and Yog Sothoth. For those who don’t know Dispater is a Lord of Hell(I can’t remember which layer, but I believe it’s the first layer) and Yog Sothoth who is an Outer God in HP Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. There are others, but those are probably the most recognizable ones. The others (I believe) were named after nightmare entities or destroyers in their pantheons.

If I had to guess, in universe some supernatural entities were used to end WW2. But this resulted in the doppelgängers running around causing chaos.

Honestly i just assumed after taking over the doppelgangers took over the building's just to add salt the the wound, kept the door man as the only non cattle survivor, keeping his old job, the building now the living place of elite members of the doppelgangers and of course they can't let just anyone in, so the new job is to insure no doppelganger is trying to impersonate an actual resident just to free load...you die instantly because its you being punished for failure.

I basically think that nightmare mode is, well a nightmare experienced by the doorman where each neighbour look like a monster because to the doorman the neighbour could or could not be a doppelgänger.

You can also prove that this is a nightmare by the intro to nightmare mode and the clown letter in arcade mode where they tell that the clown can only be found in peoples nightmares

I don't think the monsters are supposed to be dopplegangers. I think they're just good ol monster, some mythological, some from horror movies (several resemble pinhead and his posse).

Any dream always depicts what the future days may represent. In fact during the video I noticed a connection beetwen the still image of hazmat suit worker with gray alien and your decipher on the code by hooded person (please tell me how you did it). What do they have in common? The first interaction with aliens back in 1945, there could be an incident in which triple D was an another organization back when, conducting research on the newcomers from the sky. Possibly during the period between 1945-1955 something happened, causing the aliens to spread like a pestilence around the world, trying to look like humans.

Saw a video on the original one that a random clown will come in and he says if you wanna play a game if you say no he will get angry and if you call DDD the clown will unalive the ddd dude and have his head on a stick when it opens up and you can see the hand of the clown on the side it scared the life out of me lol dont know how true this is or not

Feel like it's like a nightmare mode like the dorman is sleeping and maybe he just dreaming of the double gangers ruling the world and i just think he's just dreaming of that happening and then he's just losing his mind because sometimes there's mental health issues with the foundation obviously with the ddd there's medical staff and the new person probably just encounter a doppelganger but he survive and his dreaming of the nightmare of what his job will be like i think that's my theory

It is very very likely a nightmare, with clues like the poster in arcade mode, and the beginning presentation of nightmare mode, that depicts a future where, like a lot of the comments below say, that humans were reduced to cattle, with the elite or higher-ups of the doppelgänger copying the powerful and mythical creatures that we, humans thought of, like the elder gods, serial killers, and the like, they probably kept the doormen/doorwomen because, as a race of doppelgängers, the higher-ups probably doesn’t want someone copying them, this is probably the reason the DDD was spared as well(maybe they surrendered), and that this particular doorman may have gotten sensitive info on what DDD and their organisation, and why this doorman doesn’t trust the DDD subconsciously, and the cultist giving us maybe part of the info he knows, this particular doorman being assigned to a building containing disaster-type mythical creatures to handle is maybe because of this is a “disaster”

And If u search on the wiki page u see that man that is delivering the paper with the clown game in normal mode without mask and If u look at the Man that is delivering the d.d.d. secrets paper u will see thats the same Man that is delivering the paper with the clown game.
