I was wondering when I was going to see somebody do this in a YT video. I suppose you could take it further and dig a hole and save water by watering at root level without the evaporation.

Thx for the vid. Does the plant not get overwatered if the roots are kept wet for 3 days? Do you fill the bucket up right away after being drained? I am asking bc I thought overwatering was caused by frequency of water, and not letting the roots dry out. Thanks!!

Your math calculations is completely off. If your system drips at a rate of half a gallon an hour, your 5 gallon bucket would only last 10 hours. Not 3 days (72 hours)!

I use 5v solar as a timer and to drive a solenoid value with my 44 gallon tank and a 12x8 sun sail I think I will have 365 days of unattended daily drip.. video on my channel.
