Bigger Than T. rex: Spinosaurus | National Geographic

Newly discovered fossils revealed that Spinosaurus, bigger than T. rex, was an excellent swimmer, unlike any other dinosaur. Found in the sands of Morocco, the bones suggest that, unlike its land-dwelling cousins, this meat-eating creature likely fed on sharks and other fish. Spinosaurus was about 50 feet long, and the "sail" on its back was perhaps a display structure. National Geographic Emerging Explorer Nizar Ibrahim and colleagues published their findings in Science magazine today.

It's still crazy to think these things roamed around our planet.

it's quite amazing how this beast has changed quite alot since its discovery, it went from fighting a t rex onscreen in jurassic park, to being more of a giant crocodile that had some similarities in habits to crocs like its sensory pits on the front of its snout, you can even see the pits in this video, truely a marvel of the water.

I think, being able to go back and witness these animals in person, without being torn to shreds, would be amazing. Not for time travel purposes, but just to see these creatures up close, and their lush environments would be wonderful.

Such a magnificent predator, I first got interest in Spinosaurus when I first saw its appearance from Jurassic Park 3, and understood it more and chose to investigate it more. With the evolution of the Spinosaurus skeleton, I think there are tactics that Spinosaurus used to have until the more complete version of the dinosaur has been found and these old tactics have been thrown away but I think they still deserve to be apart of this animal despite it's appearance.

For the idiots arguing over T.rex vs. S.aegyptiacus. They didn't even live in the same time period, and even if they had, they would have never fought to begin with. They had no natural predators, nor would they become the natural predator of the other.

While I personally love the super badass look of the Spinosaurus in Jurassic Park 3, the recent discoveries made that depict it as being more crocodilian in appearance, moving on all fours and being mainly aquatic, don’t detract from its coolness. Honestly, its bizarre form makes it a bit more interesting imo!

I have been a fan of spino for years. I loved artwork of it from the early 2000s where it was a very bipedal T-Rex like creature predator. I was only more fascinated with the suggestion that it could be an unusual swimming quadraped. Now the developments that it was most likely bipedal and that it had a swimming tail are astonishing.

I find this dinosaur's skeletal structure very interesting, it's different. That's why I love this dinosaur so much.
