Thanks guy. I've been toying with electronic's and DC wiring for over 60 yrs but I never used or learned how to use butt connectors until just now! Sure beats soldering. Especially with 0 - 10 gauge.

I am making a portable fan cooler thingamajig for the summer and wasn't sure how to go about connecting the wires.This was the first video I found when I searched "how to use butt connectors" and you answered all of my questions! Normally I have to watch a few videos or type in different search words before I figure it out, so this was a pleasant surprise. How do I disconnect wires that have been crimped and heat shrinked?

Question. Do the wires need to touch each other INSIDE of the connector during crimping? Or does the metal inside the connector create a path

If you strip the wire a little longer then needed and some of the wire is exposed to the plastic on the butt connector will this cause a fire?
