It may not be the best or most popular way, but it is possible to tap into a wire without using a special tap connector or solder. This short video shows you how to tap a wire if your preferred methods are not available.

But what if that tap needs to happen NOW, and you don't have access to those other ways? That's when you can use the method shown here.

It looks go on a table with lots of room and light. Try doing that in a cramped engine compartment with bad lighting and little to no room and just about 6 inches of wire to do all that. Sometimes you just have to get down in the mud when you are wrestling a pig!

Interesting way of connecting two wires. I wouldn't use most electrical tape though. If it starts to warm up, the sticky stuff tends to migrate out. Self amalgamating tape is way more effective. Just wrap it around, pulling on it as you wind it around. Solid piece of insulation.

I love how easy this looks when done by a pro who's done it probably thousand times. Try it yourself and bye bye harness 😆

Perfect, only thing I will do is actually solder the wires, so they never come apart and give a better connection.

Non adhesive splicing tape holds the T joint forever and it does not leave sticky residue when removed. 3M makes them

Genius for auto use!! I am an electrician I never would of thought of this.

Liquid electrical tape would be a better choice, it’s almost like the original material you cut away.

Just cut the wire and twist them together. Slide heat shrink tube on it. Job done.

Would this work to take power from a reverse light? I’m installing a reverse camera, and need to attach a power cable from the camera to the reverse cable.

Pro tip, use a lighter to melt off the sheathing around the wire.

its good idea. but do not use insulation tap instead use joint heat shrink sleeve to avoid forming corrosion over the time

At the end when you wrap the wires in electrical tape, would shrink tubing work as well?

Wouldn’t it be best to use the stripper tool to cut each end instead of razor?

and how do you cut the original wire like that when under the dash or kick boards on a vehicle....?

TimsBitsnPieces

You can just put a wire stripper on that area to remove the jacket...

This technique must NOT be used on the wiring beyond the interior of the vehicle or anywhere it can become wet.
