how would we do this without knowing the time it took to decelerate

Phew! 6:30, just divide the 'X' km/h by 3.6 and you will get the m/s.

Or an easier way is to divide km/h by 3.6 or multiply it by 3.6 to go from m/s to km/h

km/h to m/s is 3.6 easy conversion to remember becasue 60minutes x 60 seconds/1000 metres = 3.6

You may also get the time by dividing the the initial velocity over acceleration and cancel meter however, in seconds square of two must be subtract unto the power of one. Hence the answer would only be seconds.
