We used to race tying one-handed bowlines in scouts: pair up, tie off to your buddy as fast as you can and fall backwards. If you tie it incorrectly or don't time it right, the ground provides a quick lesson in getting it right the next time!

That's how I first learned it in Boy Scouts. We had races. Two guys would take each end of a rope. About 1.5 seconds was a good time.

i just heard about the one hand bowline. one additional thing i learnt was to pull a loop through final part of not, easy to release knot. but, careful not to pull on end and release your self, so rap look around and under main part of rope.

I've tied that knot since about 1954 I was told by my betters never tie it around myself unless I'm being rescued. For years, I almost forgot how to tie it any other way.

I was taught this knot was called a sailors knot? Been using it all my life for tying any knot. But i don’t tie boats, so i don’t tie the knot around me….imagine the looks 😳, if i did 😂. 🍻

Could be very dangerous. You need to be very aware of what you're tying yourself to and what might get caught on or tangle with that line. You also need to make sure that you don't tie a knot that slips if you're not paying attention or well practiced.
