2016 Honda HR-V - Off Road And Track Review

The 2016 Honda HR-V in EX-L AWD CVT trim. This is an all new small crossover from Honda, featuring a 1.8L I4 engine producing 141 HP which I’ll be comparing to the Jeep Renegade, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and the Mazda CX-5. Starting with the drawbacks, as someone 6 foot 1, the front drivers seat did feel a bit cramped compared to the other models. It also was the lowest on power, however it made up for it in fuel efficiency, being the most efficient model tested in this group with 32 mpg highway with AWD. It also has significantly more cargo space than both the Jeep and the Mitsubishi. The Honda also offers a 6 speed manual transmission in the 2WD trim.

This vehicle was tested as part of the 2015 Northwest Automotive Press Association’s Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year competition. The vehicle category and competing vehicles are below:

Compact Utility Vehicles:

Family Utility Vehicles: (Released May 26)

Premium Compact Utility Vehicles: (Released May 27)

Premium Utility Vehicles: (Released May 28)

Pickups: (Released May 29)

Extreme Capability Vehicles: (Released May 30)

For the brake hold you dont actually have to press it every time you come to a stop, you just have to leave it on and it will engage when you stop and disengage as soon as you hit the gas pedal!

Lmfao never thought id see a HR-V offroading.

The two-wheel-drive (FWD) HR-V has more ground clearance than the AWD. Disengaging the traction control helps offroad, but make no mistake, this Honda HR-V AWD is an ON-road vehicle.

I haven been driving the HRV for almost 6 months. I feel very powerful on the high way.

car engineers have to explain why they keep putting the automatic shifter on the floor. use the dashboard or steering column for the shifter.
create more space in a tiny vehicle.

Testing with Awd and 2wd it’s the same in that situation, Awd helps a lot when it’s rain and for snow

The HR-V is not in the same class of vehicles as the Outlander, Santa Fe, and CX-5.  The HR-V competes with the Renegade, Trax, and CX-3.

Do you plan to review the Honda Civic Si? I'd really like to see a review on that.

Really, I could put a sedan in that "off road" conditions you tested the HRV with.

Can I ask why you released 5 videos in a row? Is it like a comparison test between all the cars? Just curious. :)

That "storage area" in the center is laughably small.

Does sport mode make a difference? Is the awd front wheel biased?

Brake hold so while at a Red light, you can turn around to tap you kid and you dont have to worry about tapping the car in front of you

Why not just import the AWD Honda FIT?

No offense but should you have take the clearance height into consideration when deciding to test this off road.  I would never use this vehicle off road and if I lived in an area where I had to, then I would get a vehicle with the clearance height of the Outlander Sport or a vehicle that is as high or higher.

And to think that's based off of the Honda Fit chassis lol
