Honda HR-V (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

2016 Honda HR-V takes its name from Honda's 1990s HR-V. It is also a B-segment crossover, but that is where similarities end. The new HR-V shares its platform with the current Honda Jazz, albeit extended to account for longer wheelbase. Just like Jazz, also HR-V is very roomy inside for the segment it is in. When it comes to size HR-V is close to compact crossovers Mitsubishi ASX and Nissan Qashqai.

"It's a car, ok?" Exactly my feeling too. Nothing stands out. You're also right about the interior in the driver's seat: it's overwhelming. So many different knobs and switches in so many different styles. My head was spinning when I sat down at first. I walked into the showroom the buy the Civic, saw the HR-V and I was extremely close to change my mind, but the 1.5 petrol is a bit small for that body and I don't like diesels so i stuck with the 1.8 Civic :). But the HR-V looks good in my opinion and it's a good all-rounder for the money, giving the fact that you can save some serious money if you know how to negotiate at the dealership. Like your reviews man, keep it up.

Excellent review Marek! I'm quite a fan of Honda cars and I think you did this one justice. Pointing out very precisely the negatives and praising the upsides. I know it's not top notch, but its a car with a very fair value for money. Excellent praticality, top notch reliability, very good assembly. For me the downside is the looks, its a tad bland and sensible. But if you look beyond that I think its in my top five value for money cars. That's my kind of biased opinion. As for the competition the one I put above the HR-V in terms of overall looks, design and a great looking interior, almost posh ish like, is the Hyunday Tucson. I've been reading a lot of praise for it. But the engine is a little old and not as frugal as the fantastic i-DTEC from Honda. I just purchased a Honda HR-V and I love it!
I am in my sixty's petite and short 😁. I had the old CR-V they stole the catalitic converter I was forced to purchase a newer car since the insurance company total out my old CR-V, I purchased the HR-V. I knew nothing about the HR-V until I got to the Subaru dealer and test drove the HR-V, I fell in love. Perfect size for me, I don't do a lot of driving.

I have had three Hondas in the past few years, and not one of them has gone wrong. I have a Jazz at the moment, and you're right about the ride - a bit too hard, doesn't match the rest of the characteristics of the car.

Hello Marek.
When it will be available in Poland, could you try the new HR-V 1.5 Turbo and tell us some key differences between the models?
The local Honda dealer said that the 2018 face lifted HR-V, which still has the 1.5 NA engine, has had its CVT a bit finely tuned so it ain't gonna yell at you when you floor it that much.
Also check up the ride comfort, as the new, turbo one, is said to have sportier suspension, but then in the pre-purchase offer they say it has some "advanced damper systems" which improves ride comfort.

Nice camera shot of the car driving over the camera. In the US, the HRV comes with a 1.8 liter engine, I think. Maybe 2.0. The 1.5 liter you are driving here is I think the same engine as in my Fit-Jazz. Yep, it revs up real nice.

how do you like the seats ? I've read a lot of complaints about magic seats being very uncomfortable, lacking in thigh and especially lumbar support for longer than very short drives, I can't seem to find any info about if this has improved or not on newer Honda models ?

Good review. I like the car, but the rear part design seems a bit old with that triangle shape. I don't know in other countries, but in Spain the delivery time is about 7 months! I'd buy this car for its practicallity, but I can't see more reasons although its segment is not very exciting either. The CX-3 maybe...
