"The special program for version 5.0 just ended, and what just happened? Hoyoverse has revealed and announced some major things during the livestream, and when I say this, I mean some very unexpected things. Hoyoverse has decided to give us a free five-star character from the standard banner of our choice for the 4th anniversary in version 5.0. And not just that, they will let us choose a free five-star standard banner character during every anniversary patch.

Now, how on earth did the beta testers not tell us about this? Did Hoyoverse manage to keep something as huge as this hidden from the dataminers? To be honest, I was not expecting this at all. They aren't just giving us a free five-star for the anniversary; they are also giving us 20 extra pulls, a free pet, and a gadget as well. Some of you might think it's not that big of a deal, but for us old players, this is not something we expect Genshin to do.

We expect them to give us something like 3 pulls, but a free five-star character? Why the change of heart all of a sudden? Is it because that's what they planned to do from the start, or did they just plan it after seeing Wuthering Waves developers giving us a limited five-star character for free? Have they learned their lesson, and should we expect a limited five-star character for free in the future? Well, I don't know, but I know one thing for sure: Wuthering Waves is the reason for this reward.

If you look at the overall rewards in version 5.0, you will be shocked. They are increasing the rewards for completing quests, doing overworld exploration, giving us free materials to instantly upgrade our characters to level 60, and much more. And there's no way WuWa didn't cause this. I mean, every other gacha game offers more rewards than what Genshin does.

Even Hoyoverse's other games like Honkai Star Rail or Honkai Impact 3rd offer way more than what Genshin does, but it's been more than a year since Star Rail dropped, and God knows how many years since Honkai Impact 3rd dropped, but they didn't care about increasing the rewards back then—even when players were extremely mad at Hoyoverse, even the Chinese player base. But after the release of Wuthering Waves, we are suddenly getting a lot of quality of life changes, getting more rewards, and not to forget that custom artifact stat selector. I know it's part of the QoL, but you get what I'm saying.

Hoyoverse is suddenly acting generous, way too generous, and I'm happy that they're finally doing it. And we were right—they have learned to appreciate their player base after seeing the Wuthering Waves developers. I guess better late than never.

i was absolutely shocked when i heard we are getting a free five star standard character once a year, i was not expecting it. i think genshin is finally becoming generous

Things had very slowly been looking up for Genshin ever since Star Rail's release. I think what really triggered most of this was every popular game among Genshin's lines offering WAY better QOL features, better rewards, better support and better attention to the community (WW really takes top prize with that one). Star Rail had been hyped for a LONG time, and Wuthering Waves and Zenless Zone Zero both released with only like 3 weeks between the two. All that combined advertised really well just how much Genshin plainly sucks compared to its competitors (2/3 come from the same company but whatever you get what I mean). Even if to look just a bit less ridiculous, Genshin had to do something, which leads to the situation all of us are in right now and the usual rewards coming our way. Still, I don't think a free standard 5 Star and some more primos can even begin to close the gaps between the game and the players satisfaction...
It's a good start, don't get me wrong, but they're seriously going to have to pull out a few stops to begin closing the gaps between the game and the players satisfaction.

Wuthering waves reminded genshin not to coast on its success. Idk if wuwa would ever really surpass them, but it was a clear wake-up call that if they didn’t do something, the tortoise will catch up to the hare.

Bruh we always get 20 pulls at anniversary 💀 well now 20 pulls, pet, gadget, and 5 star. Glad they confirmed they're adding more to standard banner. Less WuWa and more Caui leaving for the US. Soon as he stopped being HI3 producer, rewards improved. Genshin was slowly getting more generous since 3.7, when Caui started stepping back. Now he's off Genshin completely.
