friendly tip if the car starts thru screw driver trick you either have bad starter solenoid or loose connection somewhere

I personally like to bridge the gap of the too large terminals, if it spins I know the stater itself is still good, and only needs a new solenoid, much cheaper and get to keep the original equipment.

You forgot to mention the ignition has to be on in most cars. And if you have a old Ford you got a starter relay in the engine bay you can do the same thing to. Mechanics call it the steal me junction lmao

The wire from the solenoid to the actual starter seems to have corroded on my 8v. Parts store only stocks off brand Chinese starters so I'm looking for a quick peak of someone actually fixing a starter, not just replacing it. Seems like I've come to the right place. If I am correct in my assessment (just push started it to get home) I hope rebuild parts are available on ebay since I haven't seen a rebuild shop in ages.

I used to start my 69 Chevy truck with a coat hanger back in the day. The heat from the headers was hard on solenoids.

KIDS.... take it from your uncle... NEVER DO THIS WITH AN ALL METAL WRENCE ON A REGULAR CARE BATTERY (UNLESS YOU HATE YOUR FINGERS AND LIFE) ....that's all... (and yes I do still have all of my fingers.. I only lost finger nails in the incident)
