John Cazale was a master of his craft. The way he lashes out but still manages to look scared, angry but afraid. Beautiful

Notice how he literally is under water while slumped in the chair. Like he's drowning. The scene shows his state in life.

Props to the makeup studio as well for making Fredo look exactly like Vito in this film!

Never mistake these masterpieces for a franchise.

Feel bad for Fredo. Everyone can’t be cold-hearted, and calculating like Michael.

Fredo is the best actor I have ever seen … he made me believe Fredo was a real person …it’s not easy for an actor to make a movie feel like a reality show .. it felt too real to me .. damn!

John was the perfect actor for this role. The casting director or if Francis already had him picked out, I forgot, made the correct decision in casting John.

Most actors are just celebrities. Cazale was a master craftsman. Very few actors are that good.

This scene makes Godfather 2 a really great movie. Explains Fedo and adds pathos to his murder.

Every pivotal scene for the Corleone men takes place in chairs. Vito in the opening of Godfather, Michael when they plan the hit in the restaurant and most famously this performance from Cazale. It’s a master class in how interior design can subtly influence power dynamics. I like Gary Oldmans lampshade scene in true romance for the same reason, just incredible.

IMO the last 10 minutes of The Godfather part 2 are the very best in cinema history

In that scene, he looks just like Vito with his hair brushed back, the thin mustache, the pants hiked over his belly button. He looked just like Brando did in the first film. He also appeared in nothing but great movies in his shortened career ; The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon and my other favorite outside the first 2 Godfather films, The Deer Hunter.

Cazale would have had a legendary career like Pacino and DeNiro. Cancer said no. Life can be harsh.

Let's face it, Fredo couldn't even handle a .38 snub
wound up crying on a curb watching his father getting clipped
