Have you ever met a hero and wondered what makes them tick? They just might have a bigger amygdala. Scientists have found that the little structure in the temporal lobe is larger than average in the brains of anonymous kidney donors.

This is correlation and NOT causation. Our brains are constantly changing as a RESULT of our experiences (this is called ‘neuroplasticity’). So, if social influences (e.g. friends’ influence) convince us to donate our organs these intentions will change the brain and its wiring. Such changes can also reverse if we change our minds, regarding organ donation, etc.

I had to say no to being a bone marrow donor candidate for a stranger after being typed for a family member. The time off from work would have cascaded me into dire financial stress/homelessness.

Whatever makes you think your superior when you're not.

Eah my step brother gave his father part of his liver, and he's a bigoted right wing cop in Florida. So I'm going to guess that the empathy is contextual.

Arent you just the greatest and most virtuous, attention starved, past middle age divorcee on the planet.
If your donation, as life-altering as it may be, was truly that, a gift, from the heart, out of pure love with no strings attached or motivations behind the deed, you wouldn't feel the need for the world to tell you what an awesome person you so desperately force everyone to see.
Charity is just that.
Grandstanding is as well.
