When my baby sister died her corneas were donated.
Years later, my mom was talking to a woman at a swimming pool. It somehow came up that her son was a recipient of a cornea donation. She expressed how big a blessing it was in her son's life. It wasn't the same kid who received my sister's eyes, but just meeting someone who had been blessed with the same type of donation that my sister gave, brought my mother a lot of comfort. Someone else was able to find joy in her loss.
I encourage everyone to be an organ donor.

Actually you can donate an organ no matter how old it is. It just has to be of good quality. But the trick is getting it out, if you are not careful you could damage the organ or end up removing more than you need. When you have to get it out the opening is usually not big enough so you should try splitting the organ apart and reassembling it later. When my church donated our organ (which was donated to us previously) we just moved it in pieces to the other church. It still played beautifully.

At the point when I got my liver, they called and said we have a liver for you but it is a “high risk” organ and has been turned away by 2 other hospitals. I told them I don’t care if they have found it by a dumpster and had to fight it out of a Doberman’s mouth, I’ll take what you got! Haha, coming up on my 3rd liver-versary in July!
