How to fix your Tesla Model S door handle yourself - BETTER THAN NEW!

The switches in the handle are the most common failure, along with the paddle gear. You can find repair kits online with new switch harnesses and gears for about $30 from Amazon/eBay/AliExpress. The door controller is (as far as I have found) only available from salvage, so eBay is your best bet-- either getting a whole handle (typically under $200), or just the controller (typically under $50).

I think the inside handle cover keeps the moisture in and rust que wiring and sensors. Without the cover que moisture can dry easily.

On my 09/2015 MS I’ve had all 4 replaced and on my refresh 10/2016 MS I’ve just had door LEDs go out (3 of them) but no functional failures.
