People really don’t understand that every phone from every big company is more or less the same as last year’s phone. The s24 has slight improvements over the s23, the pixel 9 has slight improvements over the pixel 8, and the 16 will have slight improvements over the 15.

There’s not much to innovate anymore. If you upgrade yearly, you’ll barely notice a change. But you’re not supposed to. If you wait 3 or more years before upgrading, the slight improvements will add up and make it into a real upgrade. Like if you own the iPhone 12, you’re probably fine with it. It’s a good phone. But if you compared it to the 15, there are huge improvements everywhere. Bigger and better cameras, far better battery life, USB C, Dynamic Island, slimmer bezels, it just keeps going. The 12 isn’t too old of a phone, but the 15 makes the 12 look so outdated.

But if you had the 12 and then upgraded to the 13, and then the 14, and then the 15, you’d barely notice you had a new phone every year.

I personally think that the iPhone 13 to 14 was the biggest upgrade because of the camera and the island thingy wich is completely useless but we also got a better screen so yeah

Everything is incremental, small changes over years. X was the notch/face ID, 11 was the 3 camera set up, 12 Lidar, 13 diagonal camera set up with reduced notch size and at this point OLED was standard to all models and this is when pro models got 120hz, the 14 with the dynamic island(pro models only), 15 with type C and dynamic island was standard to all models with Pro models having the action button. Then the 16 series got the camera control with differences being CPU between base and pro. 2-4 year upgrade would be worth while than upgrading every year.

People dont realize that no matter which iPhone you got, it depreciates pretty much the same every year as iphones hold their price well. Just check used prices. So might aswell upgrade

I fully agree not to upgrade to the 16 but I am on a 13 and it needs a bad upgrade half of my screen is cracked so yea I will be upgrading to the 15 not the 16 as the 15 will be cheaper when the 16 comes out

Everyone is upgrading while my classmates switched iPhone 7 for 200$ from an android cause they really value iPhones that high for no reason

I’ve gone from the iPhone 4S, 6SE, 10, 12, and 14 Pro Max. I think all of these have had significant upgrades between them. Only one maybe was the 10 to the 12 was a bit mid but that’s mainly because the 10 was such an upgrade for its time. On the whole I think year to year they’re not worth upgrading but after a few years of improvements they do add up to something that’s worthwhile.
