3 REASONS to BUY the NEW Echo Dot 5!

Показать описание
The new Amazon Echo Dot 5 generation and Dot with Clock bring 3 new updates to your home. First we have twice the bass of the previous generation. Second you can now use your Amazon Echo Dot 5, and soon 4th generation, as a WiFi extender for Eero routers. Each Echo would add up to 1000 sqft of coverage. The third reason to buy are the new sensors that include a new accelerometer for tap gestures. You can use tap to snooze an alarm, play or pause music or end a call. The new Echo Dot 5th generation also includes a new temperature sensor and occupancy sensor using ultrasound. The temperature and ultrasonic sensor can trigger routines. Are you interested in upgrading your echos for any of these features?

Just a quick comment, I am 64 years old, and I love my echo show 8 🙂

I have a 4th gen Dot in every room. Removed the various motion detectors I was using and switched to the ultra sonic detection of the Dot. H-o-w-e-v-e-r, they often simply don't respond. Yes, even after the cooldown/self reset of "motion", So, I figured a work around for that. I put all of them each on a Sonoff S31 wifi switch. And set the schedule to off/on (restart) at 5 min intervals each starting at 3 a.m. This way, they all are "unplugged and plugged back in" every night before I get up.

I like the ultra sonic motion detection. I have one in the master bath. When I get up to visit the toilet, a night light comes on for 3 minutes and turns itself off between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Its reliable since it gets its own separate reset at 10:30 p, m.

One more thing. Each of my two attics have a 3rd gen Dot up there. Just in case, I do something stupid like fall through the ceiling, or something falls on me. I can use the Dot to call for help, even 911 if necessary. (I don't always have my cell phone with me, in the attics.) Cheap insurance, me thinks.

It still boggles my mind that we have this technology. I bought three of the non-clock 5th generation to replace the three first generation Echo Dots - HUGE improvement.

One thing that would be nice if they added is a wifi extender in each echo device. The technology is there. All they need to do is implement it. I for one would easily pay extra as having this feature would be amazing 👏.

I remember your echo dot 3rd gen videos from 2018! 4 years later, I'm looking to upgrade to the 5th generation

I'll be getting at least 1 of the new dots with clock....but, what I'd really like to see is a 5th gen full sized Echo with clock....kind of surprised it's not a feature yet.

The wifi extender feature is pretty awesome! Excellent for smart bulbs / switches / etc that may have weak wifi built-in, but are probably also near echo devices. Probably not enough to get me into the Eero system, but maybe a good enough option for my parents 🤔

I have the echo dot 5th gen with clock and definitely believe it's worth the upgrade. The speaker does sound more clear and full. I actually replaced a echo 4th gen in my kitchen with it because I just don't need the bass of the 4th gen echo in the kitchen and that allowed me to have two echo 4th gens for stereo sound from my bedroom TV. I fully agree with your overall assessment Craig. It's worth if you need/use the extra features. If not wait a few weeks and get the 4th gen for $25. Or better yet, wait a few months and the 5th gen will probably be on sale. Love your videos and Saturday live streams. I usually end up catching them an hour or so after you are live lol. Keep up the great work.

The Echo Dot 5th gen is a very good speaker. It has a superb sound quality. What I don't like about it is you'd have to keep it plugged in to use it. It's not like the normal wireless speakers you can charge and use.

First review that I've heard talk about the speed limitations on wifi extender function. Good, important information.

The lack of the 3.5mm jack is a dealbreaker. I'll keep my 4th gen connected to a better speaker.

I bought several 3rd gen dots recently for $15 each. Since they have audio out ports they van be plugged into a bigger sound system such as a stereo for a much better sound. Much better,

Best thing I ever did was line-out my Dot into a pair of bookshelf speakers. GREAT SOUND *and* Alexa.

I have found that occupancy detection on Echo Dots and person detection on Echo Shows is pretty fast on detection, but VERY slow "unoccupied" making it not very useful for room lighting

Purchased two as an upgrade for sound on my TV. Never purchased an echo dot before. I have to say they are an amazing addition to watching shows via 4K Max Firestick. Not to mention the Alexa feature! Highly recommended.

The echo dot 4 has the facility to detect a person in the room. So you don't need a 5 for that. The 4 does not have a temperature sensor, but the 5 has. The temperature sensor doesn't work very well as takes a long time for the temperature inside the unit to rise or fall. I didn't know the 5 doubled up as a WiFi extender. This is useful if you have a model train room with a WiFi controlled layout. Did you know you can make an echo bark like a dog when a burglar comes around your house? How to do this is on the web. I leave you to work out how to do it and make the video! Thanks for uploading.

Lacking an aux port is a deal breaker, i'll go for the 4th.

Awesome! My new dot will arrive today. First Alexa I’ve owned after kind a painfully trying to get a HomeKit smarthome up and running. Had no idea about the WiFi extender or movement detector. That’s crazy.

The lowest possible volume on the new Dot seems louder than the 4th gen. My daughter doesn't want it beside her bed for the purpose of listening to music while falling asleep. She finds it irritating. I tried asking Amazon support to see if this is something they might be addressed in an update and they were unhelpful. They suggested that the new Dot could not have a lower volume because the speaker is better quality...

It's nice that you can have it turn on an alarm or say it's calling the police if it detects an intruder. You could also have it play barking sounds.
