I bet you didn't know just how easy it is to grow your own paprika spice! Let me introduce you to my paprika pepper varieties and exactly what to do to transform them into aromatic paprika. In this video, I also compare paprika spice made with red bell peppers to see if it's viable and as tasty as using special paprika peppers. You'll be surprised, I think, and excited about how simple it is to grow and make your own!

I've been making my own paprika for the past 2 years.. a couple things I've learned. It takes about 15-20 peppers to make a small container of dried paprika. If you have less than 5 peppers, it's prob not worth the work.
Some peppers dry better than others, medium thick walls seems to be the best(not bell). The richness of the red color in the dried paprika depends on the pepper type depending on how deeply red the peppers ripen to.
You can easily smoke the peppers if you have a smoker/grill, just cut them in half, clean, and put on in an aluminum pan/foil and let them smoke over low heat, then completely dry in a dehydrator as shown in this video.
Homemade paprika should be superior to mass-produced, since you can better remove seeds/pith so final product isn't bitter, and also mass-produced paprika is prone to having high amounts of heavy metals(arsenic, lead, cadmium) this was found in a Consumer Reports study.

Hello Tanya Lovely Greens . Loving the Paprika tutorial. Looks like your going to be in for some very spicy weather later on with Storm Ciaran. Be very careful in those high winds.

I make my own paprika (smoked and non smoked. There is a definite difference in what peppers you use. Bell peppers taste complete different. You really should use paprika peppers to even come close to real paprika.

I grew Paprik pepper plant but got no fruit because of downpours when the flowers opened.
I am going to try taking several cuttings, hopefully get the roots to start and pot them up for the coming summer. I paid quite a bit for these seeds, so I want to get at least one fully ripened fruit for more seeds.

I had a bunch of Hungarian pepper plants given to me and didn't know what to do with all of them. If only I had known I could make paprika! This is great! Thanks!

Thank you Tanya for sharing. Can I do something similar with cayenne peppers that I grew?

Thank you for another great video. I grew Hungarian hot wax peppers quite successfully in my polycrub this year but had a bad attack of white fly which really affected all the leaf growth and was particularly bad on the pepper plants. All the green growth in your polycrub is so lush and healthy looking. How are you keeping the bugs under control and would you consider doing a video on this subject?

I am tempted to try... We have a while load of red padron (supposedly) peppers weve not used as they were all hot and i don't want them to go to waste. This may be a silly question but how do you get the smoked flavour in smoked paprika?

Where can I find your recipe for your mincemeat pie? You told me what was in the crust but you didn’t give measurements and did you crush the almonds or did you use almond flour?

Hi! Unrelated to this video but did you ever get round to buying and using copper sulphate on your plum tree? I am thinking about trying guilds first but so tempting if it's a quicker fix

Lidl sell what looks like paprika peppers, I’ve tried air drying them, but never succeeded. May I ask what kind of dehydrator do you use, and is it expensive to run? Many thanks for your videos (and I have your book too 😉).
